About this opportunity
Do you want to design and build the automation, CI/CD pipelines and engineering standards that help teams ship software faster, safer and more reliably?
We’re the Colleague Channels Platform, the team behind the technology that supports colleagues in Branch, Contact Centres and Operations to service customers. We deliver shared platforms, tooling and cross‑cutting capabilities used by engineering teams across the Group!
Within the Cloud team, our primary focus is on automation, CI/CD pipelines, safety and security , alongside defining clear patterns for cloud provisioning and platform use . We build and evolve CI/CD standards, scripting, Kubernetes patterns and guardrails that enable product teams to deliver at pace on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and OpenShift (OCP), while remaining secure, resilient and compliant!
This is a senior, hands-on engineering role requiring both deep technical expertise and proven technical leadership. You'll drive engineering outcomes, lead significant initiatives, influence direction, and raise standards across teams while remaining close to the technology.
A Senior Engineer in the Cloud Team, you’ll be responsible for:
Designing, building and evolving CI/CD pipeline templates, release automation and shared tooling, using technologies such as GitHub, Harness, Jenkins, Helm and IBM DevOps Deploy, with a strong focus on reliability, feedback and developer experience.
Driving automation‑first ways of working across the platform, using scripting (primarily Python) and pipelines to remove manual effort, reduce toil and improve consistency.
Creating and maintaining Kubernetes, Istio and platform patterns, including documentation and examples, that teams can safely adopt and extend.
Defining and implementing secure, repeatable guardrails and cloud provisioning patterns, working alongside central standards to ensure teams can deliver quickly while remaining safe, resilient and compliant.
Partnering closely with feature teams, providing hands‑on support, coaching and mentoring on CI/CD, automation, observability and DevOps best practices, and supporting the growth of junior engineers.
Continuously improving platform standards and engineering quality, through design reviews, code reviews, knowledge sharing and by turning successful ideas into reusable, well‑supported capabilities.

What we're looking for
The following skills are essential for the role:
A collaborative engineer with strong technical leadership skills , capable of influencing outcomes, driving initiatives and helping teams adopt better ways of working while maintaining a focus on quality, pragmatism and ownership.
Strong hands‑on experience designing and running CI/CD pipelines in all environments.
Strong automation and scripting skills (Python preferably), with a passion for removing manual effort.
Solid hands‑on experience with Kubernetes and Helm , and familiarity with service mesh concepts (e.g. Istio).
Experience working in cloud‑based platforms (public and/or private), with a practical, engineering‑led approach.
Working knowledge of infrastructure‑as‑code (e.g. Terraform) and how it supports automated delivery, rather than being the primary focus.
Experience with observability and monitoring tooling such as Dynatrace, Prometheus, Splunk or similar.
And any experience of these would be really useful
Application development and testing ecosystems (e.g. Java Spring Boot / Quarkus, Node.js, React, automated testing).
Code quality, security scanning and vulnerability management.
Secrets and certificate management (e.g. HashiCorp Vault).
Cloud cost awareness and optimisation (FinOps).
Data, messaging or streaming technologies (e.g. PostgreSQL, Oracle, Liquibase, Kafka).
Our focus is to ensure we're inclusive every day, building an organisation that reflects modern society and celebrates diversity in all its forms. We want our people to feel that they belong and can be their best, regardless of background, identity or culture. And it’s why we especially welcome applications from under-represented groups. We’re disability confident. So, if you’d like reasonable adjustments to be made to our recruitment processes, just let us know.
We offer a wide-ranging and flexible benefits package, including:
