PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Up to £42,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge, and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Corporate Digital & Applications (CDA) builds the BBC’s internal tools, including mobile apps and services that make it easier for our BBC colleagues to do their jobs. As a Junior iOS Engineer who is comfortable with Swift and SwiftUI, and eager to learn more, you’ll play a key role in shaping, designing, building and maintaining the iPhone apps that people rely on every day.

The CDA team is a friendly, flexible, start-up-style group building internal products that help keep the BBC running.
Your work in the Mobile team will be far-reaching. Our flagship newsgathering app enables BBC journalists and programme makers to record and send back pictures and sound directly to any BBC base from anywhere in the world. Within minutes of being recorded, they can appear on TV, radio or the digital services of BBC News.
Among others, we also build apps that enable live broadcasts from an iPhone, help people to find colleagues, stay safe, and carry out basic IT and admin tasks. There will be many more to come.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Collaborate effectively to design, develop, test, and release well-engineered code
- Work closely with the CDA product team
- Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement
- Effectively participate in the team's software development methodologies, such as pairing, code reviews, agile planning and continuous delivery
- Write appropriate automated tests to ensure code-quality
- Actively help troubleshoot and resolve issues
- Learn new technologies and keep abreast of existing technologies
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Good experience writing iOS apps using Xcode
- Good experience with Swift, SwiftUI, SwiftData and object-oriented programming techniques
- Good experience of consuming APIs, eg RESTful or using GraphQL
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- A strong commitment to your own growth and professional development and a willingness to share knowledge and help others
DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
- A good feel for UI / UX design
- An understanding of mobile accessibility standards
- Some familiarity with UIKit
- Experience with package managers such as CocoaPods or Swift Package Manager
