Job Description – Service Engineer

The Company

General Anaesthetic Services Ltd (GAS) is a specialist employer focused on maintaining and supporting critical anaesthetic equipment. Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Service Engineer to oversee operations within our organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating on-site servicing and production activities, ensuring quality standards, and optimising processes to maximise efficiency. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to continuous improvement to meet organisational goals and uphold safety standards. This role is a prerequisite for the Service Centre Manager position. After an undetermined period, and subject to performance and business requirements, there may be an opportunity for promotion into this role.

This role will primarily be based onsite in Keighley but occasional travel to hospital and veterinary practices across the UK may be required, with occasional overnight stays.

Responsibilities

· Act as SME (Subject Matter Expert) for the Service, repair and testing of Anaesthetic Vaporizers and associated accessories.

· Act as SME for the Service, repair and testing of veterinary anaesthetic machines and other associated equipment.

· Liaise with the Production Manager and agree schedules regarding:

· Servicing/Testing of anaesthetic vaporizers on site at GAS

· Servicing/Testing of anaesthetic vaporizers on-site at Hospitals & Vet Practices

· Servicing/Testing of Veterinary Equipment at Vet Practices

· Manufacture of Key Fill Bottle Adapters and Compatibility Blocks and other associated accessories.

· Plan and direct the activities of the servicing team regarding service, maintenance, repair, and test tasks, tying workflow to agreed schedules.

· Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions.

· Investigate customer complaints and determine the cause of such complaints.

· Follow the company’s filed procedures and protocols.

· Cooperate with technical, quality and customer service teams and share information across the organisation.

· Comprehend customer requirements and make appropriate recommendations.

· Build positive relationships with customers

· Act as deputy Quality Management Representative when necessary

· Understand the requirements of the QMS and ISO 13485:2016, and ISO 14971:2019.

· Ensure direct reports understand the requirements and importance of the QMS and ISO 13485:2016.

· Carry out internal audits in conjunction with the Quality Manager

· Identify training needs of Service Technicians and other workshop staff

· Perform training for Service Technicians and other workshop staff

· Perform annual competency checks for Service Technicians

· Review Service Manuals and other relevant procedures & documentation on a regular basis to ensure that the correct information for the servicing, repair and testing of the anaesthetic vaporisers is correct at all time.

Skills

· HNC/BSc Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

· Mechanical knowledge relevant to servicing equipment and assembly processes.

· Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

· Strong leadership qualities with experience in team management and development.

· Knowledge of quality control standards and regulatory compliance requirements in relation to ISO 13485:2016.

· Previous experience working with medical devices would be highly beneficial but not essential for the role.

Hour of Work

· Monday - Thursday 07:00-15:00 Friday 07:00-11:00

· Salary - £35,000 - £40,000
