Job Purpose:

Location: Altens East Recycling & Resource Facility,
Duration: Fixed Term, Full Time

Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 10 and above (currently £30,030 per annum / £16.50 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

Job purpose/about the role

The Senior Waste Management Officer will manage and oversee the Council’s waste disposal and treatment arrangements.

The role will assist in the planning and delivery of new waste management options from 2029, when the current contract expires, and will manage subsequent disposal and treatment arrangements.

The role will also be the day-to-day Waste & Recycling Service liaison with the NESS project.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience.
Full UK driver’s licence

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

Proven experience of effective contract management – preferably in a waste related environment
Knowledge of the waste management industry
Information management skills of reporting, monitoring, analysis and evaluating
Analysing and presenting complex information both verbally and numerically
Budget management
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to effectively manage contracts and apply negotiation techniques to reach
mutual agreement on settlement and / or outcomes.
