What you'll be doing

As a Development and Test Technician, you will apply and develop your knowledge, immediately contributing to the successful delivery of interesting and challenging projects for a wide variety of customers, markets and sectors.

The work includes assembly of test rigs, system and component functional, development and durability testing. The roles supports testing through the build and test phases helping to deliver projects on time to customers.

Key responsibilities

Support projects in all aspects of the development and testing of prototype transmissions, EV motors & inverters, test rigs and demonstration vehicles.
Electrical HV and instrumentation installation of EV motors & inverters.
Electrical installation and commissioning of DSD’s test rigs & facilities.
Logical approach to systems fault diagnosis.
Liaise with Engineers and Project Leads, with respect to daily build progress and development and test requirements.
Ensuring appropriate tools and equipment are readily available and maintained
Maintain a tidy, organised and safe working environment in the workshop
Support Test and Development Team with establishing procedures and build manuals
Perform controlled teardown activities in accordance with DSD’s procedures and customer requirements
Undertake ad hoc requirements from the Test and Development team
Use of and proficient in appropriate software related to your engineering background
Take an active role in the continuous improvement initiatives within the Development and Test function
Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with peers, business development and technical leaders
Being fully aware of and actively complying with Drive System Design’s policies and procedures
Exhibiting a passion for learning and facing new challenges
Understands and follows DSD’s values and professional standards and technical best practices project management, quality, communication etc.
Actively undertake continued professional and personal development
There will also be a requirement for occasional late and weekend working to complete work to deadlines

What you will need

Relevant recognised engineering training or apprenticeship
You have relevant experience of EV motor / Inverter and test
You have knowledge of automotive & industrial Electrical installations
You are a natural collaborator, able to build and manage effective working relationships
You have a “can do” attitude with high levels of commitment, enthusiasm and motivation
You are passionate about developing your own knowledge, experience and skills
You demonstrate a clear commitment to health and safety
Hold a full UK Driving Licence

Desirable Skills

Machining skills (e.g. turning, milling, tapping)
Fabrication skills (e.g. panel work, guarding)
Welding (e.g. MIG, TIG)
Methodical approach to work
Ability to work to a high standard
Ability to work from Engineering drawings
