Your Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Scientist to join our Molecular Biology team with a focus on Pathogen Detection (qPCR). The post holder will perform routine and custom GMP studies as required, maintain good laboratory housekeeping and working practices, maintain equipment and control stock to ensure the smooth running of the laboratories.

This role will be working on a condensed hours (4 day working week) and will include working 1 in 4 weekends.

This role will be offered as either an Associate Scientist 1 (9 or 12 month fixed term contract) or Associate Scientist 2 (permanent role) depending on the level of experience of the successful candidate. We welcome applicants who have recently completed their degree or those with existing work experience. If applying as an Associate Scientist 2 candidate the role will also include training and mentoring junior members of staff, actively contributing to key projects within the departments, and driving forward quality improvement initiatives.

Who you are:

Educated to minimum of HND level in Molecular Biology or associated Biological Science discipline
Ideally you will have knowledge / experience in relevant PCR techniques, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid extractions or any other associated Molecular techniques.
Ability to prioritise own workload and work within a fast-paced environment, with a strong problem-solving ability
Must be self-motivated, with high levels of initiative, facing challenges with energy, drive and the need to finish, with a strong focus on quality and safety
Demonstrate strong planning and organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise effectively, with good communication and interpersonal skills
Computer literate, ideally with prior knowledge of working with LIMS
