About the Role

At Hooken Chassis Race Cars Ltd, we design and develop high performance chassis systems and precision engineered components for motorsport and specialist automotive applications. Our work combines practical engineering, advanced CAD modelling, and close collaboration with manufacturing teams to deliver innovative engineering solutions.

We are looking for a CAD Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Edinburgh. This mid level role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys transforming concepts into production-ready designs while collaborating with manufacturing, quality, and project teams. You will contribute throughout the product development lifecycle, from initial concepts and 3D modelling to technical documentation and production support.

Key Responsibilities:

CAD Design

Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings for chassis systems, fabricated structures, brackets, suspension components, and mechanical assemblies.

Product Development

Support engineering projects from concept through prototype development, design validation, testing, and production implementation.

Technical Documentation

Prepare accurate engineering drawings, bills of materials, assembly documentation, and revision-controlled technical records.

Engineering Collaboration

Work closely with manufacturing, fabrication, machining, procurement, and quality teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and meet project requirements.

Continuous Improvement

Recommend design improvements that enhance performance, durability, manufacturability, quality, and cost efficiency.

Problem Solving

Investigate design issues, support engineering change requests, and provide practical technical solutions throughout the product lifecycle.

What We Are Looking ForExperience

A minimum of 3 years of experience in CAD design, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, motorsport engineering, or a related manufacturing environment.

Education

Degree, Higher National Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Technical Skills

Experience using professional CAD software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, Siemens NX, or similar 3D design platforms.

Engineering Knowledge

Good understanding of engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, fabrication methods, machining processes, materials, and mechanical assemblies.

Communication

Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and project teams.

Mindset

You are detail oriented, proactive, and committed to producing practical engineering solutions while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and accuracy.

Pay: £34,476.00-£40,000.00 per year
