ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Northern Ireland Office is recruiting a Higher Executive Officer (HEO) to support the engagement, delivery, and administrative functions for Intertrade UK. This role is dedicated to supporting a newly established body focused on facilitating and boosting trade within the United Kingdom.
The role will sit in the Fiscal, Economy & Trade Group (FET), which covers a broad remit within the Northern Ireland Office leading on a range of financial issues working with HM Treasury and the NI Department of Finance; driving economic growth to meet the Government’s Growth Mission by working with Whitehall and NI departments to ensure that Northern Ireland’s economy propers; and managing the NIO’s trade interests on Intertrade UK and the Windsor Framework.
Intertrade UK is a new non-statutory advisory body to facilitate and boost trade within the United Kingdom. It is chaired by The Rt Hon. the Baroness Foster of Aghadrumsee DBE, supported by five expert members with extensive experience in business and trade. The body’s core mission is to provide strategic advice and insight that strengthens the UK internal market and drives economic prosperity.
As an integral part of the Intertrade UK team, you will provide essential support to the delivery of the body’s published work programme. You will act as a primary point of contact for the secretariat, managing day-to-day interactions with a diverse range of stakeholders and ensuring the smooth operational running of the advisory body. You will be expected to work with initiative, reacting confidently to emerging issues while maintaining excellent relations across Whitehall and with external partners.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The main responsibilities of the roles include but are not limited to:
- Managing the Intertrade UK secretariat inbox, ensuring timely responses to stakeholders and triaging inquiries effectively.

Assisting the SEO in the implementation of the external engagement plan to support the published work programme.

Providing logistical and administrative support for the in-person delivery of external engagements and events.
Supporting the procurement of research with external partners and managing administrative links with delivery contractors.

Building effective working relationships with internal colleagues and external partners to ensure smooth operational delivery.
The role will also require:

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
The post holder will need to demonstrate the following in their application and at interview:
- A track record of excellent organisational skills which you use to successfully deliver against competing priorities.

Strong written and oral communications skills, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.

A proven ability to work at pace and under pressure.

Existing National Security Vetting - current holder of Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) or above.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
- Experience in or a clear understanding of external procurement processes or basic financial administration.

It is difficult to prepare for strength type questions. However, you can think through your answers, focus on your achievements and aspects you enjoy and decide how these can be applied in the organisation and role. While strengths questions are shorter and we do not expect a full STAR response, the panel is interested in your first reaction to the question and information or reasoning to support this.

The NIO offers Hybrid Working arrangements w business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different NIO sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity.
