NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Trainee Respiratory & Sleep Clinical Scientist to join our Respiratory & Sleep Service. This fully funded three-year Scientist Training Programme combines a postgraduate MSc in Clinical Science with practical workplace-based training, leading to HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist. Working alongside experienced multidisciplinary teams, you will develop specialist skills in respiratory and sleep diagnostics while contributing to high-quality patient care. Monday to Friday, dayshift with rotational nightshift and backshift
Key responsibilities:
- Undertake a structured academic and vocational training programme leading to an MSc in Clinical Science and eligibility for HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist

Develop competence in performing, analysing and interpreting a wide range of respiratory and sleep investigations including lung function testing, sleep studies and exercise testing
-
Deliver safe, effective and patient-centred care while monitoring patients during diagnostic investigations and responding appropriately to clinical concerns
-
Participate in clinical placements and rotational working across respiratory and sleep services as required to support training and service delivery

Contribute to research, audit and service improvement projects, including completion of a Masters level dissertation

Support the education and development of colleagues and assist in delivering training within the department and wider healthcare community
-
Maintain accurate patient records, undertake quality control activities and contribute to the efficient operation of specialist diagnostic equipment and services
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- BSc (Honours) degree in a relevant science subject with a minimum 2:1 classification

Higher/National 5 qualifications in English and Maths

Experience working with the public and the ability to build positive relationships with patients, carers and colleagues

Ability to study and perform at Masters level with excellent written communication and report writing skills

Demonstrable commitment to a career in respiratory physiology and an understanding of the profession

Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail

Ability to work effectively as part of a team, manage competing priorities and meet the travel requirements of clinical placements and rotations
