Are you looking for an exciting and challenging opportunity to lead a skilled team in a time of significant growth in an AESA Radar sector, based in our Edinburgh site?

Leonardo is a global leader in defence electronics and delivers mission critical systems for situational awareness, electronic warfare and surveillance across land, sea and air. The Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business, based in Edinburgh, is uniquely positioned as one of the world's top manufacturers of radars, lasers and infrared countermeasure systems with a rich heritage in engineering, with 100 years of pioneering development.

We are looking for a Project Engineering Lead (PEL) to join the engineering team on a permanent basis to cover an exciting and growing large scale flagship project developing cutting edge Receiver technology.

Working within a multi-disciplinary Integrated Project Team, the role provides engineering leadership to deliver projects on time, within budget and to the required quality standards. It is accountable for engineering inputs to Project Performance Reviews, maintaining effective reporting and communication, and ensuring the delivery of best-value solutions that meet customer, contractual, safety and legislative requirements. The role promotes streamlined ways of working, encouraging re-use, modularity and continuous improvement across the engineering lifecycle. It works closely with the Project Chief Engineer, suppliers and key stakeholders to resolve technical and programme challenges, support make-or-buy decisions, maintain configuration and change control, and document design rationale. Strong stakeholder management and communication are essential, ensuring issues are escalated appropriately and performance targets are achieved. The role also supports Agile ways of working, fostering a collaborative, motivated and high-performing engineering team.

What you’ll bring

A first degree or higher qualification in Electronics or a related discipline.
Strong leadership competency whilst demonstrating team working skills.
Knowledge of a typical Engineering lifecycle process and business processes
A willingness to travel within the UK, and possibly overseas
Familiarity with electronic systems design and operation
Familiarity of Software, Hardware, Firmware and integration
Delivery of accurate estimations in support of further orders

It would be nice if you had:

Extensive experience in integrating systems and sub-systems
Experience of Radar and/or Communications
Experience in developing integrated solutions for airborne environments
Experience within system design/system architectures
Chartership with an engineering institution
