The IT Project Management Office sits at the centre of the Information Technology directorate, providing leadership, integration and oversight of project delivery. The team is responsible for managing and evolving Project Management Office (PMO) processes to improve consistency, governance and delivery outcomes across a diverse portfolio of projects and programmes. Working in a collaborative, matrix environment, the Project Office Manager oversees day-to-day activity, ensuring Delivery Managers have the right toolsets, processes and training in place to succeed. The team plays a key role in embedding best practice, supporting interrelated projects and programmes, and driving continuous improvement. This is a dynamic, supportive environment where your work will directly strengthen delivery capability and enable successful outcomes across the directorate.

Job description

The Project Office Manager oversees day-to-day PMO activity within a matrix environment, promoting best practice across interrelated projects and programmes to support successful delivery. The role ensures consistency in project management processes, governance and standards, while equipping teams with the right tools, resources and training. Working collaboratively, the postholder plays a key role in strengthening delivery capability and enabling project teams to achieve high-quality outcomes.

Your responsibilities will include, but arent limited to:

Managing the day-to-day activity of the Information Technology PMO function, including business case management and reporting
Ensures delivery against a clear and consistent approach to project planning, risk, issue and dependency management, financial planning and benefit management.
Leads project reviews, approvals and gating processes.
Provides a quality reporting service for digital, data and technology delivery.

Required experience:

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

Experience of managing a PMO function with evidence of delivery.
Proven expertise in project/programme management and planning skills and prioritising effectively.
Proven experience in the use of MS tools and MS Project.
Ability to report on a range of project types and complex business initiatives and change programmes, including risk and benefit management and tracking.
Proven experience of working with business stakeholders to engage with the delivery function and associated governance.

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements

Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 35 hours per week.

This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.

The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location/visiting stakeholders. Your designated workplace will be your contractual place of work. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.

No travel to other offices will be required, which may involve overnight stays.
