About the role
Balfour Beatty Power Transmission & Distribution is delivering some of the UK's most significant energy infrastructure projects and is experiencing unprecedented growth as we support the nation's transition to a low-carbon future.
Working with key clients including SSEN Transmission, Scottish Power Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission, we are looking for an Assistant Pre-Construction Manager to join our growing team.
Based from our Maxim Office, you'll play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and pre-construction activities across major infrastructure projects. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in project development and pre-construction while working on nationally significant schemes.
As an Assistant Pre-Construction Manager, you'll support projects from the earliest stages of development, through detailed design and governance approvals, right up to the start of construction. You'll work closely with Pre-Construction Managers, operational teams, designers, estimators and clients to ensure projects are well planned, risks are managed, and robust delivery solutions are developed before work begins on site.
What you'll be doing
- Supporting the Pre-Construction Manager as a key day-to-day contact for allocated projects.
- Assisting in the coordination and delivery of ECI and pre-construction programmes from feasibility through to contract award.
- Supporting the development of strategies that successfully transition projects from feasibility and ECI through to main construction works.
- Coordinating governance activities and supporting projects through the Balfour Beatty Gated Business Lifecycle (DGBL).
- Working closely with Bid, Commercial, Planning, Design and Operational teams to develop robust delivery solutions.
- Supporting the preparation of client presentations, reports, submissions and governance documentation.
- Assisting with risk identification, mitigation and opportunity management throughout the pre-construction phase.
- Supporting the management of project deliverables, programmes and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Promoting health, safety and sustainability by design principles throughout project development.
- Supporting mobilisation activities and ensuring projects are "fit to start" before transitioning to delivery teams.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, innovation and knowledge sharing across the wider Power T&D business.
- Assisting with monthly reporting and communicating key project updates to internal and external stakeholders.
Who we're looking for

- Good understanding of project lifecycles and governance processes.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office Suite.
Desirable
- Experience supporting pre-construction, design, project management or delivery teams.
- Knowledge of power transmission, utilities or major infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of CDM 2015 and Health & Safety by Design principles.
