Full job description

Do you want to play a key role at the heart of local democracy, supporting elected Members to make decisions that have a real impact on communities across East Sussex? This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the democratic process and help shape local services and priorities to help ensure the Council’s decision-making processes are accessible, transparent and effective.

As a Governance and Democracy Officer, you will support the democratic processes that enable East Sussex County Council to make lawful, transparent and effective decisions. Working as part of the Member Services Team, you will provide advice and support to councillors and officers, service a range of committees and panels, and help deliver high-quality democratic services.

You will prepare and publish agendas, attend meetings, produce minutes and records of decisions, provide procedural advice, and also support school admission appeals and other governance-related activities. This is an excellent opportunity to develop specialist governance expertise in a varied and rewarding role.

We are looking for candidates who:

Have experience of servicing political decision-making and/or scrutiny meetings
Can communicate effectively with a wide range of people and adapt messages for different audiences
Can plan and organise a varied workload whilst working to competing deadlines
Have political awareness and an understanding of local government decision-making
