We're looking for a reliable, friendly, and compassionate Support Worker to join an established team supporting a young man with a spinal cord injury who lives independently in his own home with his much-loved pet dog. Applicants should therefore be comfortable around pets.

Our client values his independence and is actively involved in making decisions about his care and lifestyle. He enjoys a relaxed home environment and has a passion for gaming. In his spare time, he also enjoys watching sci-fi and action films, cooking, and spending time at home.

We are looking for someone who is positive, patient, respectful, and committed to supporting him in a way that promotes choice, independence, and dignity. Building a trusting, professional relationship and respecting his autonomy are key aspects of this role.

Please note that the client smokes in his home, so applicants should be comfortable working in this environment.

Location:

Bude

Roles Available:

Part time 2 days per week - usually Sunday and Monday
Bank Work for additional shifts and cover

Shift Patterns:

Weekday Day Shifts 09:00-14:30
Weekend Day Shifts:10:00-15:30
Bank Holiday and weekend working forms part of the rota

Pay Rates:

£15.00 per hour weekday hours
£16.00 per hour weekend hours
Double time for Bank Holdiays
£1.00 per hour less during probationary period

Role Responsibilities:

Providing personal care and daily living support
Assisting with transfers and mobility
Supporting with household tasks and routines
Promoting independence and participation in hobbies and activities
Working collaboratively with an experienced, supportive team
Shifts will include a mix of weekdays and weekends (flexibility appreciated)

Ideal Candidate

Essential:

Respectful of personal boundaries and the clients right to make his own decisions
Excellent communication skills and a sense of humour
Comfortable working around pets and with a smoker
Supporting the clients personal care tasks
Flexible and reliable

Preferred:

Previous care experience
Previous experience of spinal cord injury
Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to drive the clients adapted vehicle

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Purpose: To support your client with their day-to-day living, promoting their independence and supporting them to live a fulfilled life ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.

Internal and Management: This role will report to the Registered Manager

Key Duties/Responsibilities of our Support Worker:

Supporting your client to safely lead a fulfilling and more independent life by:

Provide practical support for your client and their family, such as helping with personal care, household tasks and paperwork
Assist and encourage your client to engage in everyday home, social, leisure and work activities, according to the individual's choice
Support and monitor your client's healthcare needs, including administering medication and other clinical tasks
Help your clients to access community facilities and be included in community groups, if they so wish
Understand their communication needs and adapt your own communication style accordingly
Keep accurate, up to date records of all the care you provide
Work positively with other professionals, such as doctors and therapists, to ensure consistency of support
Maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times
Participate in learning and development opportunities as required

As a term of employment, you may be required to undertake other duties and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required. This forms part of your employment contract.
