As we continue to invest in our technology capability, we are looking for a Senior Business Systems Engineer to join our growing Technology team.
Your Life as a Senior Business Systems Engineer
As a Senior Business Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing and supporting the business systems that underpin SDL Surveying's operations.
Working across data engineering, systems integration, backend development and automation, you will design scalable solutions that improve business efficiency, increase resilience and support the company's continued digital transformation.
This is a hands-on technical role with the opportunity to influence technical direction, establish engineering best practice and mentor other engineers within the team.
Key Responsibilities
Business Systems & Automation
- Design, develop and maintain business process automation using Microsoft Power Automate.
- Develop and support business applications using Microsoft Power Apps.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual business processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Ensure automation solutions are secure, scalable, resilient and fully supported.
- Develop monitoring, alerting and recovery mechanisms for business-critical automations.
Data Engineering & Integration
- Design, develop and maintain integrations between internal and third-party systems.
- Develop, optimise and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases, stored procedures, views and functions.
- Build and support ETL solutions using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or equivalent technologies.
- Design robust APIs and backend integration services.
- Ensure the integrity, performance and security of business data.
Software Engineering
- Develop backend services and integration components using C# and .NET.
- Produce high-quality, maintainable and well-documented code.
- Contribute to solution architecture and technical design.
- Follow modern engineering practices including source control, testing and CI/CD.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation
- Write and maintain effective unit and integration tests
Operational Support
- Investigate and resolve complex production issues affecting business systems.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Work collaboratively with Infrastructure, Service Desk, Development and Product teams to deliver reliable technology solutions.
- Support change management, release processes and production deployments.
Technical Leadership
- Act as a senior technical specialist within the Business Systems Engineering team.
- Mentor and support other engineers, helping to grow technical capability across the department.
- Promote engineering best practice, documentation standards and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to technical strategy and the continuous improvement of SDL's business systems and automation capability.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven commercial experience developing solutions using Microsoft Power Automate.
- Proven commercial experience developing applications using Microsoft Power Apps.
- Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including T-SQL, stored procedures, views and performance optimisation.
- Experience developing ETL solutions using SSIS or equivalent technologies.
- Experience designing and developing integrations between business systems.
- Experience developing APIs and backend services using C# and .NET.
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting business-critical production systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working within Agile delivery teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Familiar with the use of unit and integration tests
