Senior DevOps Engineer
We are seeking an accomplished Senior DevOps Engineer to build, automate, and improve the platforms and delivery practices that support secure, reliable, and scalable enterprise technology services. This role will provide hands-on technical leadership across continuous delivery, cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, observability, security, and operational resilience.
The Senior DevOps Engineer will work closely with software engineers, cloud engineers, solution architects, cybersecurity specialists, quality teams, and product stakeholders to streamline the delivery and operation of critical applications.
You will design and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automate infrastructure provisioning, strengthen monitoring and incident-response capabilities, and establish engineering standards that improve speed, quality, and reliability. The successful candidate will combine strong systems and cloud expertise with practical software engineering skills and sound operational judgment.
You will solve complex technical challenges, guide teams on DevOps best practices, mentor engineers, and help create a culture of automation and continuous improvement. This position offers the opportunity to shape modern engineering practices and deliver platforms that enable teams to release high-quality software securely and efficiently at enterprise scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable CI/CD pipelines that support automated build, test, release, and deployment processes.
- Develop and manage infrastructure-as-code solutions for cloud, on-premises, and hybrid technology environments.
- Partner with software engineering teams to improve application deployment, environment management, release quality, and operational readiness.
- Implement containerization and orchestration solutions using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, Azure Kubernetes Service, or Google Kubernetes Engine.
- Automate provisioning, configuration, patching, and lifecycle management for infrastructure, platforms, and development environments.
- Establish observability standards using logs, metrics, tracing, dashboards, and alerts to improve platform reliability and incident response.
- Investigate and resolve complex production incidents involving deployments, infrastructure, networking, performance, security, and availability.
- Implement DevSecOps practices, including code scanning, dependency management, secrets management, security controls, and vulnerability remediation.
- Optimize cloud infrastructure and platform resources for performance, scalability, resilience, governance, and cost efficiency.
- Develop and test disaster-recovery, backup, business-continuity, and capacity-management capabilities for critical services.
- Participate in architecture and design reviews, identifying technical risks, operational dependencies, and opportunities for automation.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, deployment procedures, and support standards for platforms and services.
- Mentor engineers and promote consistent DevOps practices, operational excellence, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
- Seven or more years of experience in DevOps engineering, cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, or software delivery.
- Strong experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, CircleCI, or Argo CD.
- Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools including Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Azure Bicep, ARM templates, Pulumi, or Ansible.
- Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or hybrid-cloud environments.
- Strong knowledge of container technologies and orchestration platforms, including Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and managed Kubernetes services.
- Experience with Linux and Windows systems administration, scripting, and automation using Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar languages.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts, including virtual networks, DNS, routing, load balancing, firewalls, VPNs, and private connectivity.
- Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Splunk, ELK Stack, CloudWatch, or Azure Monitor.
- Knowledge of application and infrastructure security practices, including identity and access management, encryption, secrets management, and vulnerability management.
- Experience with source control, branching strategies, automated testing, artifact repositories, package management, and release-management practices.
- Understanding of incident management, problem management, change control, disaster recovery, and service reliability engineering principles.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Microsoft Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, Terraform Associate, or Google Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer are preferred.
- Authorization to work in the United Kingdom is required.
