We are looking for someone to join our team on a freelance basis, 1-2 days per week. Our office is based in Meltham, Holmfirth.
What You’ll Be DoingWebsite Design and Development
- Design and develop responsive, user-friendly websites across Shopify and WordPress
- Build new websites from initial brief through to testing and launch
- Translate designs, wireframes and client requirements into functional websites
- Create visually engaging page layouts that reflect each client’s brand and objectives
- Customise Shopify themes and WordPress templates to meet project requirements
- Develop landing pages, product pages, service pages and other website content
- Ensure websites work effectively across desktop, tablet and mobile devices
- Work with the team to plan and deliver website projects
- Provide realistic development timescales and keep project updates clear and accurate
- Test websites thoroughly before launch, identifying and resolving design, usability and technical issues
- Support website migrations, domain changes and new website launches
- Maintain consistent standards across design, functionality and user experience
Website Management and Support
- Manage and maintain existing Shopify and WordPress websites
- Complete website updates, content changes and design amendments
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across client websites
- Manage Shopify apps, WordPress plugins, themes and platform updates
- Monitor website performance and identify opportunities for improvement
- Improve website speed, usability and mobile performance
- Carry out routine quality checks and ensure websites remain fully functional
- Support clients and the internal team with website-related queries
- Investigate issues with forms, navigation, integrations, checkout processes and website functionality
- Coordinate with third-party developers, hosting providers and software suppliers where required
- Maintain appropriate website backups, security measures and update processes
- Keep accurate records of website changes, tasks and project progress
Ecommerce and Conversion
- Build and manage Shopify stores that provide a clear and effective customer journey
- Configure products, collections, navigation, filters and website content
- Support the setup of payment gateways, delivery options, discounts and promotional features
- Implement and test ecommerce functionality, including product variations, carts and checkout journeys
- Recommend practical improvements to increase website engagement and conversions
- Work with the marketing team to create campaign landing pages and website content
- Support the implementation of tracking codes, analytics tools and marketing integrations
- Ensure websites are built with good on-page SEO foundations
- Review website performance and recommend design or development improvements
What We’re Looking For
- Around two to four years of experience designing and developing websites
- Demonstrable experience building and managing websites across both Shopify and WordPress
- A strong portfolio of responsive website design and development work
- Experience customising Shopify themes and working with Liquid
- Experience building and managing WordPress websites
- Strong working knowledge of HTML and CSS
- A good understanding of JavaScript and PHP
- Experience using page builders and theme-editing tools
- A good understanding of responsive design, user experience and accessibility
- Experience troubleshooting website, theme, app and plugin issues
- Confidence working with hosting platforms, domains, DNS and website launches
- An understanding of ecommerce customer journeys and conversion-focused design
- A working knowledge of technical and on-page SEO principles
- Strong organisation and attention to detail
- The ability to manage several website projects, support requests and deadlines at once
- Confidence communicating technical information clearly to colleagues and clients
- Experience using project-management platforms such as Asana would be beneficial
- Experience with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite or similar design tools would be advantageous
- Agency experience would be beneficial but is not essential
