Full job description

St Mary’s Music School is looking for a daytime cleaner to work mainly in the school’s boarding house. This post is for 30 hours per week working from 8am to 2.30pm both in term-time and in the school holidays.

We are a small school in which no two days are the same. Staff adaptability and flexibility are key, along with a willingness to be hands-on when necessary. The day cleaner will be one of a team of domestic and facilities staff headed by the Maintenance Manager.

Job Description & Areas of Responsibility include:

Clean boarding areas of the school;
Clean elsewhere outwith term time and to cover staff absences or special occasions;
Assist with laundry;
Adhere to COSSH regulations;
Promote and help to safeguard the health, welfare and safety of pupils, staff and visitors;
Undertake appropriate and agreed training and maintain a personal record;
Other tasks as requested.

Rate of Pay

£13.45 to £13.65 per hour, paid as a monthly salary. Salary is payable by credit transfer, monthly in arrears.

Hours of Work

30 hours per week, normally 8am to 2.30pm Monday to Friday, with a half-hour break for lunch. Hours outside of the school term may vary.

It is situated in a leafy campus in the heart of Edinburgh, a short walk away from Haymarket Station. Co-educational, day and boarding, the School provides specialist music training and an impressive and stimulating academic education for pupils showing special ability and potential in music. The School aims to provide the highest possible standard of education and training to exceptionally gifted young musicians, in an inspiring, inclusive and supportive environment.
