Current office is based in Peterborough - Shortly moving elsewhere in Cambridgeshire (TBC)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

To be a part of the friendly, proactive Domestic Abuse Support Service (DASS) team, providing bespoke community-based support, advice and advocacy services for individuals and families subjected to domestic abuse in Cambridgeshire area. Based on the needs and wishes of the individual, develop appropriate support and safety plans to help people to remain safely in their own home or in alternative accommodation suited to financial means and individual requirements.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Be responsible for a caseload of clients (women, children, men and families) as directed by the Team Leader
Work in a trauma informed way to understand the needs and wishes of the individual
Empower individuals to maximise their stability and independence, identify their goals, create an achievable action plan and rigorous safety plan
Work in partnership with other agencies supporting clients – i.e. MARAC/ IDVA/ drop in surgeries at community locations/ attend court hearings where necessary
Support individuals and families to remain safely in own home where appropriate
Source accommodation suited to client’s financial means, safety needs and individual requirements
Support to get additional home security where required
Assess financial capability/ support with accessing welfare benefits
Signpost to specialist support (legal/ mental health/ drug & alcohol etc.), advocating where required
Support to set up utilities, source & purchase furnishings/ white goods etc.
Access funding to assist individuals with costs where access to money has been identified as a barrier – i.e. to assist with securing deposits, relocation costs, white goods etc.
Develop knowledge of current programmes and support networks likely to beneﬁt the development and progression of clients
Ensure clients understand their rights and responsibilities within the service
Ensure that the voices of service users are consistently sought to enable them to shape service delivery
Perform appropriate health and safety checks, risk assessments and maintain records
Deliver consistently exceptional services to clients, making use of new and alternative methods and practices to continuously improve service quality and standards

Additional duties and responsibilities:

Communicate effectively with external professionals working with clients, attending meetings where necessary
Use the InForm software management system to accurately record client information, updating as appropriate
Be flexible to the changing needs of the organisation and its service users
Abide by the organisations staff working policies and procedures
Promote the aims, purposes, mission and services delivered by the organisation
In addition to the duties set out in this job description the post holder may at times be required to undertake additional or other duties to meet the needs of the organisation

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Essential

Experience of:

Working with people who have experienced trauma
Helping vulnerable people to manage their needs and working with them to identify strengths and develop life-skills.
Experience of sensitively assessing, responding to and monitoring clients’ needs and risk

Qualifications:

Evidence of CPD

Skills and Abilities:

Good analytical skills to assess the needs and establish effective support of clients. Competent in risk assessment/ safety planning
Good level of initiative and drive with ability to work as part of a team and unsupervised
Ability to develop relationships with key partners to secure effective outcomes for individuals and families
Ability to build supportive relationships with clients whilst maintaining professional boundaries
IT proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel etc.
Good written and verbal communication skills and the capacity to engage and communicate with individuals at all levels
The ability to work on own initiative within a busy environment and ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload

Knowledge:

A good understanding of the experiences and issues facing those fleeing domestic abuse
Good understanding of Safeguarding and what constitutes abuse

General:

Highly committed to improving the lives of individuals and families fleeing domestic abuse through feelings of improved safety and wellbeing
Ability to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends
Full driving licence and access to car
Work within the boundaries of the Organisation’s Policies and Procedures
Demonstrate and convey a passion for the work of IMPAKT Housing & Support including an understanding of the work we do and the challenges faced.
Ability to respect the Ethos of the Organisation and uphold its Values
Willingness to develop within the job and undergo relevant training
Friendly personality with a good sense of humour
Clean enhanced DBS check

Desirable:

Experience of:

Working with individuals/families impacted by domestic abuse
Partnership working

Knowledge:

Understanding of the impact of trauma and ability to work in a trauma informed way
Knowledge of support options available to clients with NRPF
Knowledge of relevant housing legislation and local authority policy
Knowledge of relevant local support networks, voluntary organisations and agencies
