Job summary

The Digital, Data and Technology (DDAT) directorate has recently been established in UKEF, drawing together the expertise in digital currently within the organisation to provide representation of digital services, user centred design, analytics and technology at the highest levels. The areas with the directorate work closely with all areas of the business such as the Business Group, Operations and Strategy and Policy.

Job description

UKEF is committed to be a more customer-centric organisation, making it easier for customers to deal with us, offering improved response times, quicker decision-making and improved case-processing. To enable this, UKEF is committed to using digital as a primary means for managing relationships with a wider range of stakeholders. Focusing on developing end-to-end services that meet user need and enable business outcomes, this is an exciting new role showing the growth and drive of UKEFs digital ambition.

This role will design services for UKEF that meet users needs and the Service Standard. Theyll work with multi-disciplinary teams to improve and design new or existing services, researching with both internal and external users taking into consideration the service design from a digital and non-digital perspective.

Main Activities:

A service designer will lead on the design for user centred services, based on evidence of user needs and organisational outcomes. You will:

work with Service Owners, Product Managers, User Researchers, Business Analysts and Developers as part of a multi-disciplinary team to design and deliver user-centred, accessible services
have responsibility for design across complex services, ensuring solutions are outcome-focused and aligned to user needs and organisational priorities
lead on the development of design concepts for services, leveraging common component design patterns from across government, iterating based on research and insights
translate design concepts into practical prototypes to explore ideas, support user research and improve services based on user feedback
provide expertise to the team in accessibility requirements and inclusive design
use and interpret evidence from user research and insights to inform decisions, understanding and communicating the impact on users and stakeholders
help set direction and embed good practice within teams
make important decisions based on research and understand how this research impacts others
represent service design for UKEF at cross-government and internal assessments against the Service Standard

User focus.You know how to give direction on which tools or methods to use. You are experienced in meeting the needs of users across a variety of channels. You can bring insight and expertise in how user needs have changed over time to ensure these are met by the business. You know how to apply strategic thinking in how to provide the best service for the end user. (Relevant skill level: expert) (A)

Skills/Ability

Communication skills.You can mediate between people and mend relationships, communicating with stakeholders at all levels. You know how to manage stakeholders expectations and facilitate discussions across high risk and complexity or under constrained timescales. Agile working.You know how to coach and lead teams in Agile and Lean practices, determining the right approach for the team to take and evaluating this through the life of a project. You can think of new and innovative ways of working to achieve the right outcomes. Digital Perspective.You know about the wider digital economy and advances in technology; you understand how these impact on a government context. Facilitating decisions and risks.You can make and justify decisions characterised by high levels of risk, impact and complexity. You know how to build consensus between organisations (private or public) or highly independent and diverse stakeholders. You can be trusted by senior risk owners as an expert in security.
