Job Title: Rough Sleeper Outreach Support Worker
Location: Based at Somewhere to Go, 4 Boulevard, Weston-super-Mare. The role covers North Somerset
Accountable to: Rough Sleeper Outreach Support Service Manager
Responsible for: Volunteers
Shift: 22.5 hours per week
Requirements: Due to the nature of the clients we work with we can only accept applicants who are 18+ years old. Full driving licence is essential.
Job Summary
We are pleased to have been commissioned to deliver the Rough Sleeper Outreach Support Service in North Somerset! We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Rough Sleeper Outreach Support Worker to provide essential support and assistance to individuals who are rough sleeping. This role focuses on early engagement, reducing harm and supporting people to move away from the streets towards safety and accommodation. The team provide high quality assertive outreach support to individuals to engage them with person-centred support to meet their needs. This role covers North Somerset and engaging with vulnerable individuals using a non-judgment approach within the community. to homeless and vulnerable adults across the Weston-super-Mare area in accordance with the strategic objectives of Somewhere to Go.
Job Purpose
As a Rough Sleeper Outreach Support Worker, you will be required to contribute to the effective running of the outreach team. You will support clients to access accommodation, act as a single point of contact for services and support client’s engage with services, promote independence, safeguard them from harm and to thrive within their communities. This is achieved by offering practical assistance, support, advice, advocacy, coaching and encouragement to enable individuals to resettle and to prevent reoccurring homelessness. You will need to manage the risk and needs of these individuals through assessments, support plans and risk management. You will be highly knowledgeable and capable in subjects such as housing and homeless legislation, benefits, and welfare, safeguarding and risk management or be willing to develop your skills further. Furthermore, you will have knowledge or experience working with services across North Somerset and neighbouring counties.
Responsibilities
- Deliver professional, impartial, pragmatic, outcome focused support to a range of clients with complex needs to ensure that they thrive in their community.
- To give full support on different issues which are likely to include several of the following areas: homelessness and housing, domestic abuse, relationship breakdown, substance misuse, offending behaviour, mental ill health, physical ill health and poverty.
- Provide information, guidance, and advocacy to clients.
- Undertake all monitoring and meet KPIs as required.
- Act on advice and support from more senior staff as appropriate on cases.
- Work within strategic and legislative framework.
- Ensure all work meets both external and internal quality, contractual, performance and professional targets and standards.
- Ensure client details are kept securely in line with GDPR.
- Identify cases requiring further help (specialist advice, alternative support) and refer as appropriate.
- Develop, maintain and coordinate effective working relationships with external agencies.
- Maintain accurate records of support provided and report any changes in client welfare to appropriate services.
Personal Specification
- This role is physically demanding and involves walking several miles, often though uneven terrain during all weathers.
- Previous experience working with clients with multiple and complex needs including but not limited to: homelessness, mental health, care needs, offending history, physical health, substance misuse, trauma & abuse within the last 3 years.
- Knowledge and/or qualifications in relation to the issues our clients are facing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of support services in North Somerset for at risk individuals.
- Experience of using trauma-informed practice, a strengths-based approach and a non-judgmental person-centred approach.
- Excellent communication skills both in person and in writing and be able to tailor this approach to working with individuals and professionals.
- An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the application of safeguarding policy and practice whilst working in communities with vulnerable adults.
- Excellent professional boundaries and be able to stay calm in times of conflict as well as knowledge and experience of de-escalating conflict.
- An in-depth knowledge of MS Office applications and a demonstrated ability to generate and analyse performance reports using Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiar with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulations and is experienced in providing a confidential service to customers and in managing their personal information in a confidential manner.
