Are you passionate about protecting adults with care and support needs, committed to Making Safeguarding Personal, and keen to lead and develop high-quality, relational and outcome-focused safeguarding practice?

Norfolk County Council is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Safeguarding Adults Team Manager to join our Adult Social Services Department’s safeguarding service. This is an exciting opportunity to lead within a dynamic and supportive team, working alongside a range of professionals and partner agencies to make a positive difference to adults in Norfolk.

We are particularly keen to encourage applications from Occupational Therapists, recognising the significant value that Occupational Therapists bring to safeguarding practice, especially where there are complex issues relating to moving and handling, equipment, environmental risk, health conditions, functional ability, independence, self-neglect, neglect or organisational concerns. Occupational Therapy perspectives can bring important insight into risk, choice, mental capacity, proportionality and practical solutions that support adults to live as safely and independently as possible.

We know that some Occupational Therapists may not always see safeguarding leadership roles as a natural next step in their career. However, we see this role as an opportunity to strengthen the visibility and confidence of Occupational Therapists in safeguarding, while also supporting wider operational staff to develop their understanding of safeguarding enquiries. The successful candidate would be supported to maintain their professional identity, with access to clinical supervision from the Principal Occupational Therapist and membership of the Occupational Therapy leadership group within ASSD, as well as receiving safeguarding supervision from the Head of Service, Safeguarding and peer support from two other Safeguarding Adults Team Managers.

As Safeguarding Adults Team Manager, you will support best practice and quality in safeguarding enquiries, inspire practitioners, and contribute to their ongoing professional development. You will help ensure that safeguarding practice is legally literate, proportionate, person-centred and inclusive of different professional perspectives. You will also play an important role in supporting multi-disciplinary working across Adult Social Care and with partner agencies, helping to ensure that adults receive coordinated, thoughtful and effective safeguarding responses.

We are looking for someone who can champion high standards, communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and support practitioners to feel confident in their safeguarding practice. You will bring curiosity, sound judgement and a commitment to learning, improvement and positive outcomes for adults.

You need to be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a practising Occupational Therapist or with Social Work England as a practising Social Worker.

We offer a £2,000 welcome payment for qualified and experienced Team Managers new to Norfolk County Council. Amount to be repaid in full should you leave within two years of employment.

For experienced Occupational Therapists or Social Workers new to Norfolk County Council, we promise to try and match or better your existing salary, providing it’s in the spectrum of the grade advertised.
