Full job description

Established in 1909, Johnsons Coaches is one of the UK's leading coach operators, proudly delivering safe, reliable and professional transport services for over 115 years.

We are currently recruiting for a Service Delivery Supervisor, to join our friendly and professional team based at our new Birmingham Depot.

Job Purpose

As part of the Operations Team, you will support the day-to-day running of services by coordinating drivers, vehicles and operational requirements. You will be a key contact for drivers, customers and members of the public, helping to resolve issues quickly and keep services moving. The role requires strong planning, clear communication and practical problem-solving to make sure drivers and vehicles are in the right place at the right time.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate with drivers, Engineering and Management to support daily operational requirements.

Allocate duties and manage driver and vehicle movements to keep scheduled and planned work on track.

Use available vehicles and drivers effectively to support service delivery and control operating costs.

Carry out regular checks and audits of National Express drivers to confirm compliance with contractual requirements.

Enter driver and vehicle allocations into U-Track accurately and on time.

Monitor departures and make sure drivers leave the depot at or before their scheduled departure time.

Work closely with colleagues to support reliable service delivery for customers and the business.

Support site and people health and safety, acting where issues or risks are identified.

Review National Express audit findings and make sure actions are followed up and closed before the deadline.

Maintain professional and effective working relationships with drivers.

Support the balance between commercial requirements, operational delivery, utilisation and service standards.

Respond to breakdowns, late running, accidents and other incidents affecting services or staff, liaising with the NCC (Network Control Centre) and Johnsons’ Operations Team as required.

Manage daily delivery and transfer allocations from planning through to completion.

Keep staff updated on incidents, accidents, service failures, hire delays and service disruptions.

Check that vehicles are prepared and ready for service to the Gold Standard specification.

Carry out regular checks and audits of National Express vehicles to confirm compliance with contractual requirements.

Follow up with Engineering on any outstanding work required on National Express vehicles.

Make sure vehicle defect reports are completed, processed and reconciled in line with the defect reporting process.

Conducting random, for cause and following and incident drug and alcohol testing in line if the Drugs and Alcohol Policy.

Work towards achieving the PCV Transport Manager CPC qualification.

Key Skills and Experience Required:

Good working knowledge of road passenger transport operations.

Able to make practical decisions and solve day-to-day operational issues.

Organised and able to manage priorities during busy operational periods.

Flexible and reliable, with the ability to respond to changing operational needs.

Experience using Coach Manager would be advantageous.

Confident using IT systems, including Microsoft packages, Coach Manager and operational planning tools.
