As we continue to grow, we are seeking an ambitious and results-driven Business Development Manager to identify new opportunities, strengthen client relationships and drive sustainable business growth across the UK.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced business development professional to play a key role in expanding Miller Knight’s presence within the public sector market and developing long-term partnerships with organisations responsible for maintaining and improving critical building assets.
Role Overview
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for developing new business opportunities, securing profitable contracts and maintaining strong relationships with clients across the public sector, social housing, refurbishment and passive fire markets.
The successful candidate will play a key role in identifying upcoming opportunities, building relationships with key stakeholders and supporting Miller Knight’s continued growth through strategic business development, framework opportunities and tender submissions.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, develop and secure new business opportunities nationwide.
- Generate new leads through networking, market research, referrals, industry contacts and relationship building.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with housing associations, local authorities, NHS trusts, education providers, framework providers and key industry stakeholders.
- Promote Miller Knight’s passive fire protection and refurbishment services.
- Develop a strong understanding of client requirements, upcoming projects and market opportunities.
- Identify opportunities through public procurement portals, framework agreements, tender opportunities and direct client engagement.
- Attend client meetings, networking events, exhibitions and industry conferences.
- Prepare and deliver professional presentations, capability statements and client proposals.
- Work closely with estimating, commercial and operational teams to develop competitive tender submissions.
- Support the development of a strong supply chain and strategic partnerships.
- Develop account management plans for existing clients to maximise repeat business and long-term relationships.
- Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and provide regular forecasts, updates and reports to senior management.
- Monitor competitor activity, market trends and changes within the public sector procurement landscape.
- Support marketing initiatives including campaigns, social media activity and promotional materials.
- Ensure CRM systems are accurately maintained with client activity, opportunities and sales progression.
- Represent Miller Knight professionally and uphold the company’s values at all times.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in business development within construction, refurbishment, passive fire, social housing or a related sector.
- Strong understanding of public sector procurement processes and framework agreements.
- Experience identifying and securing opportunities through tender-led sales processes.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships.
- Commercial awareness with strong negotiation and influencing skills.
- Experience working towards sales targets, revenue growth and business development objectives.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage a national territory.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Willingness to travel nationally.

- Knowledge of passive fire protection regulations and compliance requirements.
- Existing network within housing associations, local authorities, NHS trusts or education providers.
- Experience working with public sector frameworks and procurement platforms.
- Experience using CRM systems.
- Understanding of refurbishment, planned maintenance and building compliance projects.
