Health & Safety Officer

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum
Location: On-site
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

About The Role

An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a successful food manufacturing business.

Reporting directly into the Operations Director, you will take responsibility for managing the site’s Health & Safety activities, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, company procedures and industry best practice.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys working closely with operational teams, improving safety standards and developing a positive Health & Safety culture across a busy manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Take ownership of the site Health & Safety function, ensuring legal compliance and company standards are maintained.
Provide advice and guidance to managers and employees on Health & Safety matters, risk management and safe working practices.
Create, review and maintain Health & Safety policies, procedures and operational controls.
Complete risk assessments, COSHH assessments and regular workplace safety inspections.
Lead investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying improvements and corrective actions.
Deliver Health & Safety inductions, toolbox talks and ongoing training sessions.
Manage statutory checks and inspections, including lifting equipment, fire safety equipment, forklift trucks and workplace facilities.
Maintain emergency procedures, safety records and incident reporting systems.
Monitor Health & Safety performance through KPI reporting and support regular safety meetings.
Assist with internal and external audits while working collaboratively with Operations, HR and Technical teams.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and promote a proactive safety culture throughout the business.

About The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

NEBOSH General Certificate (essential).
Previous experience working within Health & Safety, ideally within food manufacturing, manufacturing or a similar industrial environment.
Strong understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and compliance requirements.
Experience carrying out risk assessments, investigations, audits and workplace inspections.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage reporting and documentation effectively.
Good IT skills and experience producing Health & Safety reports.

Desirable Experience:

NEBOSH Diploma.
IOSH Membership.
Food manufacturing experience.
Knowledge of current Occupational Health & Safety practices.

Additional Information

Permanent, full-time position.
Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 depending on experience.
