The Team:
The Strategic Full Reval Capability (SFRC) team is responsible for delivering and operating the bank's strategic risk technology platform for Global Markets. The platform provides scalable, high-performance risk and P&L capabilities used across trading, Market Risk and Quantitative Analytics functions.
SFRC is a global engineering and delivery organisation, with teams across London, New York, Chicago, Singapore and India. The team operates in an Agile model and works closely with business, risk, quant, data and control functions to deliver robust, enterprise-grade solutions.
You will support technical delivery across development, DevOps, QA, business analysis and production support groups, ensuring platform improvements translate into stronger production stability, better compute utilisation, more reliable lower-lane execution, improved batch observability, data quality controls, disciplined regression and release processes, and sustained adoption of agreed engineering changes.
Role Description:
This is a critical technical platform leadership role, requiring Managing Director-level ownership, pace and judgement within a Director mandate.
We are seeking a senior technical platform leader to maintain Business-As-Usual delivery, platform stability, performance, compute efficiency and continuous improvement of the Strategic Full Reval Capability (SFRC) platform within Global Markets Technology. SFRC is a strategic risk and P&L platform supporting Market Risk Stress Testing, CCAR, Full Revaluation VaR, Counterparty Credit Risk and FRTB Standardised Approach.
This is not a programme management, advisory or coordination role. You should be technically credible, able to understand platform architecture, batch execution, data flows, dependencies, production failure modes, hardware utilisation, computation cost and engineering trade-offs, and capable of challenging technical assumptions.
We require an execution leader who can diagnose underlying platform issues, shape practical software solutions with engineering teams, drive accords through ambiguity and follow through until improvements are delivered, adopted and measurable in production.
Those who are experienced in strategy, architecture review, governance or recommendations alone, but who have not personally led teams to realise measurable platform improvements, are unlikely to be successful.
Responsibilities:
-
Maintain Business-As-Usual delivery, platform stability and continuous improvement across SFRC, with accountability spanning technology, data, batch processing, quantitative components, compute efficiency and production outcomes.
-
Maintain a deep working understanding of SFRC and Quartz architectures, critical integrations, data movement, dependency chains and execution paths, using that understanding to guide platform agreements and simplify complexity.
-
Assess hardware utilisation, compute patterns and calculation cost, guiding engineers towards software-led optimisation rather than assuming additional infrastructure capacity is available.
-
Drive improvements in batch performance, resilience and observability by analysing execution patterns, bottlenecks, dependencies and failure modes, and converting findings into practical engineering actions.
-
Lead execution from problem identification through to implementation, rollout and measurement, ensuring agreed actions are delivered, obstacles are removed, accountabilities are clear and improvements are fully realised in production.
-
Strengthen production operability through better monitoring, alerting, data quality controls, exception management, operational tooling and early issue detection across production and non-production environments.
-
Improve software delivery quality through robust regression testing, release readiness, environment governance and risk-based change control, reducing avoidable incidents and increasing delivery confidence.
-
Introduces incident management, root cause analysis and remediation, ensuring lessons learned are converted into durable engineering, testing or process improvements.
-
Introduce engineering teams through the improvement lifecycle: diagnosis, solution design, prioritisation, implementation, rollout, adoption and measurement of outcomes.
-
Investigate assumptions, evaluate engineering trade-offs and ensure technical strategies improve operability, resilience, maintainability, scalability and compute efficiency.
-
Prioritise and deliver platform enhancements, technical remediation, defect resolution and operational improvements, balancing immediate Business-As-Usual stability with longer-term platform evolution.
-
Coordinate effectively with delivery leads across concurrent platform initiatives and provide clear, evidence-based updates on platform health, technical risks, delivery progress, measurable stability improvements, compute efficiency, decision points and required support.
What we are looking for:
This role requires sufficient technical depth and execution credibility to challenge engineers, architects and DevOps leads on design decisions, implementation approaches, operational risks, compute efficiency and architecture trade-offs. Those who experience is primarily programme management, governance, advisory review or delivery coordination without demonstrable technical platform ownership and realised outcomes are unlikely to be successful.
-
Extensive experience delivering, operating and improving multi-faceted trading, risk, P&L or large-scale financial technology platforms.
-
Experience owning large horizontal platforms with multi-faceted batch processing, data flows, downstream dependencies, high production expectations, compute constraints and significant operational risk.
-
Demonstrated ownership of production platform outcomes, including stability, resilience, performance, operability, compute efficiency, architecture simplification and reduction of systemic platform risk.
-
Ability to interpret multi-layered platform architectures, critical data flows, system dependencies and computational workloads; identify architectural, operational and engineering weaknesses; and drive measurable improvements.
-
Experience of converting technical diagnosis into execution, mobilising engineering teams, driving difficult prioritisation decisions and delivering measurable platform outcomes rather than recommendations alone.
-
Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams across development, DevOps, QA, business analysis and production support through implementation, rollout and adoption of technical improvements.
-
Ability to operate at senior leadership levels, driving outcomes in high-pressure environments with minimal oversight while combining strategic judgement with technical execution.
Technical Skills and Experience:
- Substantial technical grounding, with the ability to rapidly understand platform architecture, data flows, system integrations, batch processing dependencies, production failure modes, hardware utilisation and computation cost drivers.
-
Solid ability to analyse batch execution, dependency chains, integration patterns, data quality issues and compute-intensive workloads to identify bottlenecks, operational risks and engineering improvement opportunities.
-
Experience guiding engineering teams towards software-led optimisation, workload reduction, scheduling improvements, data flow simplification or algorithmic efficiency where additional hardware capacity is constrained.
-
Experience improving production stability, lower-lane reliability, batch performance, monitoring, data quality controls, operational tooling, compute efficiency and release certainty.
-
Ability to move from technical recommendation to execution by setting clear ownership, driving decisions, removing blockers, holding teams to delivery commitments and validating outcomes in production.
-
Extensive understanding of SDLC, Agile delivery, release management, environment coordination, regression testing, DevOps practices, automation, deployment controls and production change governance.
-
Experience working directly with engineering teams to shape technical solutions, investigate architectural assumptions, evaluate engineering trade-offs and drive implementation through to measurable operational outcomes.
-
Experience owning incident management, root cause analysis, remediation, operational readiness and service resilience for production platforms.
-
Proficiency in Python or equivalent technical capability, enabling credible engagement with engineering teams and sufficient understanding to challenge and guide technical delivery.
-
Extensive understanding of data, analytics, risk, regulatory and control frameworks within financial systems.
Skills that will help:
-
Familiarity with cloud-based architectures such as Azure or AWS, including principles of scalability, resilience, observability and cost-aware platform design.
-
Experience leveraging AI-assisted delivery tools and enterprise copilots to improve productivity, analysis, reporting or engineering efficiency.
-
Deep experience working with Quants, Market Risk, Model Validation and regulatory stakeholders.
