About the Role:
Manchester is one of the UK's leading centres for technology, digital innovation, and professional services, and at Emploi Partner Solutions Ltd, we build reliable technology solutions that help organisations operate more efficiently. We believe great software engineering combines strong technical foundations with practical business thinking. We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer who can provide technical leadership across complex software initiatives and help shape the engineering standards used across our products and platforms. You will work closely with software engineers, product specialists, architects, and business stakeholders to turn challenging requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
Why Work With Us?
The Environment: Our Manchester City Centre office provides a professional and collaborative setting close to major transport links and the city's growing technology community. We value thoughtful engineering, open technical discussion, and an environment where experienced engineers can influence important decisions.
Technical Influence: You will have a meaningful role in defining engineering direction, architecture standards, development practices, and technical priorities across major initiatives.
Modern Engineering: Our teams work with modern development frameworks, cloud platforms, automated testing, continuous integration, and contemporary software delivery practices. We encourage engineers to evaluate new technologies based on their practical value.
Professional Growth: We support experienced engineers through technical training, professional development, industry conferences, certifications, and opportunities to contribute to challenging technology programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction across complex software initiatives and establish engineering approaches that support scalability, reliability, security, and long term maintainability.
Software Architecture: Design and review robust application architectures, evaluate technical alternatives, and help engineering teams make sound decisions around systems, services, integrations, and infrastructure.
Engineering Standards: Define and improve coding standards, development practices, testing strategies, documentation, and technical governance across engineering teams.
Technical Mentoring: Mentor Senior and Mid level Software Engineers through design reviews, architecture discussions, code reviews, and complex technical problem solving.
Cross Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, business specialists, security teams, infrastructure engineers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
Delivery Support: Identify technical risks and dependencies early, provide practical solutions, and help engineering teams deliver complex initiatives efficiently without compromising quality.
Continuous Improvement: Evaluate emerging technologies and engineering practices and recommend improvements that can increase developer productivity, system performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
What We Are Looking For:
Experience: 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial experience designing and delivering complex production systems.
Technical Leadership: Demonstrated experience providing technical guidance to engineering teams and influencing architecture and engineering decisions without relying solely on formal management authority.
Software Development: Strong knowledge of modern software development principles, object oriented or functional programming, API design, distributed systems, testing, and application performance.
Cloud and Platforms: Practical experience with cloud technologies, containerisation, deployment pipelines, monitoring, and modern software infrastructure.
Architecture: Strong understanding of scalable system design, integration patterns, security principles, resilience, and maintainable application architecture.
Communication: You can explain complex technical concepts clearly to engineers, product teams, and senior business stakeholders and can make technical recommendations based on business requirements.
Mindset: You are pragmatic, technically curious, and outcome focused. You know when to introduce architectural improvements and when a simpler solution is the better choice. You care about engineering quality while understanding the importance of delivering reliable software that creates measurable business value.
