The Role
As General Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day leadership, performance and success of the care home.
This is a senior leadership position requiring an experienced care professional with the confidence, commercial awareness and people leadership skills to oversee all aspects of the home. You will lead from the front, creating a culture where exceptional care, outstanding hospitality, dignity and quality of life are embedded into everyday practice.
You will be responsible for ensuring that the home delivers consistently high standards across care, safeguarding, compliance, staffing, resident experience, occupancy, financial performance and operational excellence.
You will build strong relationships with residents, families, colleagues, healthcare professionals and external stakeholders, ensuring that Elmfield Care is recognised as a provider of choice within the local community.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People
- Provide inspirational leadership to the entire home, creating a positive, professional and compassionate culture.
- Lead, motivate and develop a multidisciplinary team, ensuring colleagues understand and consistently deliver Elmfield Care's values and standards.
- Build a strong team culture focused on excellence, accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Identify talent and support colleagues through effective training, coaching, mentoring and career development.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels, recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisal and performance management processes are maintained.
- Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, compassion and a commitment to delivering an exceptional resident experience.
Resident Experience & Quality of Care
- Ensure residents receive consistently high standards of personalised care, support and hospitality.
- Champion residents' rights, dignity, independence, privacy, choice and individual preferences.
- Ensure care planning and risk management processes are robust, person-centred and regularly reviewed.
- Create a home environment where residents, relatives and visitors feel welcomed, valued and listened to.
- Promote an exceptional standard of hospitality, presentation, cleanliness, dining and overall resident experience.
- Respond positively and professionally to feedback from residents and families, ensuring concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.
Compliance & Governance
- Take overall responsibility for ensuring the home operates in accordance with all relevant legislation, regulation and best practice.
- Maintain strong knowledge of Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements, safeguarding procedures and relevant local authority standards.
- Ensure the home is inspection-ready at all times and lead CQC and other external inspections.
- Maintain effective quality assurance, audit and governance systems.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement robust action plans where required.
- Ensure all policies, procedures, records and documentation are maintained to the required standard.
Commercial & Operational Management
- Take responsibility for the overall financial and operational performance of the home.
- Monitor budgets, expenditure and financial performance, ensuring resources are used effectively.
- Work proactively to achieve and maintain strong occupancy levels.
- Conduct professional and engaging home tours for prospective residents and their families.
- Manage enquiries, admissions and moving-in processes, ensuring suitability and a positive experience from the outset.
- Develop strong relationships with local professionals, commissioners, community organisations and other referral partners.
- Contribute to the home's marketing and business development strategy, promoting Elmfield Care's reputation and unique offering.
- Ensure the home is presented to an exceptional standard and consistently reflects the quality associated with a premium care environment.
Day-to-Day Operations
- Maintain effective oversight of all departments and ensure the home operates smoothly and efficiently.
- Work collaboratively with the Care Manager, Deputy Managers and wider leadership team.
- Ensure appropriate management cover is maintained, including participation in the management on-call rota where required.
- Be visible and approachable within the home, maintaining regular contact with residents, relatives and colleagues.
- Take decisive action when challenges arise, maintaining high standards while creating a supportive environment for staff.
About You
We are looking for an experienced General Manager, Home Manager or Senior Care Manager who can demonstrate a strong track record of leading an older people's residential or nursing care service.
You will be a confident and credible leader who combines compassion with commercial and operational awareness. You will understand that running an outstanding care home is about much more than compliance — it is about creating an environment where residents enjoy an exceptional quality of life and colleagues are proud to work.
You will ideally have:
- Proven management experience within an older people's residential or nursing care environment.
- Strong knowledge of CQC regulations, safeguarding and care legislation.
- Demonstrable experience of leading, developing and motivating teams.
- Experience of managing budgets, occupancy and operational performance.
- Excellent communication, organisational and relationship-building skills.
- A genuine passion for providing outstanding care and resident experiences.
- The confidence to lead inspections and manage regulatory requirements.
- A professional, positive and solutions-focused approach.
- The ability to balance high standards of care with strong commercial and operational performance.
- A relevant management qualification, ideally QCF Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Adult Care or equivalent, or a willingness to work towards this qualification.

Hours of Work
42 hours per week
Salary: GBP 75,000 -£85,000 pa
