Role Overview
As the Digital Solutions Developer, you will be responsible for the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Northern Energy's internal applications, automation platforms, AI solutions, and system integrations.
You will work closely with operational teams, customer-facing departments, marketing, external suppliers, and the wider IT team to understand business processes and deliver practical solutions that generate measurable value.
This role is not purely about writing code. It requires someone who can understand business challenges, engage confidently with users, and translate requirements into effective, maintainable digital solutions.
You will be trusted to take ownership of your work whilst contributing to the broader technology strategy of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Application Development
- Design, develop, test, and maintain internal business applications. Own and support core operational systems including: o Garage Inspection Platformo Scheduler Platformo AI Chat Agent Solutionso Future business applications Develop enhancements and new functionality based on business requirements. Deliver maintainable, scalable, and well-documented solutions.
Power Platform & Dataverse
- Develop and maintain solutions using: o Dataverseo Power Appso Power Automateo Power BI Design and improve business processes through automation. Create and maintain efficient data models and workflows. Support continuous improvement across operational systems.
AI & Innovation
- Support the development and implementation of AI-enabled solutions. Assist with the ongoing evolution of AI chat agents and knowledge systems. Research emerging technologies and identify practical opportunities for adoption. Help drive AI and automation initiatives throughout the business.
Systems Integration
- Develop and maintain integrations between internal and external platforms. Build and support APIs and automated data flows. Improve data quality, consistency, and reporting capability across systems. Work with suppliers and partners on integration projects where required.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work directly with departments including: o Operationso Garageo Engineeringo Customer Serviceo Marketingo Finance Gather requirements and understand operational processes. Present technical concepts in a simple and understandable manner. Build strong working relationships throughout the business.
Documentation, Testing & Quality
- Maintain high-quality technical documentation. Ensure all solutions are properly version controlled. Follow agreed testing and deployment processes. Produce user guides and support documentation where appropriate. Ensure knowledge is shared to minimise single points of failure.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Positive, proactive attitude with a strong desire to solve business problems. Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively. Strong communication skills, particularly with non-technical stakeholders. Experience developing business applications or digital solutions. Experience working with databases, APIs, and integrations. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong hands-on experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, and React, as these underpin our core internal platforms. Comfortable using AI coding assistants (e.g. Claude) as part of the day-to-day development workflow. Working knowledge of SQL. Experience with modern version control practices (Git/GitHub). Ability to document processes, systems, and solutions clearly.
Highly Desirable
Experience with:
- Dataverse & Power Platform(Power Apps/ Power Automate) Power BI AWS & Azure Cloud Services Next.js REST APIs and third-party API integrations Infrastructure as Code (IaC) CI/CD pipelines AI technologies and automation Python MongoDB / NoSQL databases

First-Year Objectives
Months 1–3
- Understand key business processes and existing systems. Build relationships with users and stakeholders. Become familiar with Garage App, Scheduler, and AI projects. Deliver initial improvements, fixes, and enhancements.
Months 4–6
- Take ownership of selected business applications. Deliver meaningful automation and efficiency improvements. Reduce reliance on external developers for day-to-day changes.
Months 7–12
- Become the primary owner of core internal applications. Deliver measurable business value through automation and innovation. Support AI adoption and future digital initiatives. Contribute to the ongoing development of customer and operational systems.
