Chef de Partie – The Salt Barge

30 hours per week | Paid hourly

Hourly rate: National Minimum Wage to £13.00, depending on experience

The Salt Barge is an independent countryside pub beside the canal in Marston, entering an exciting new chapter.

After two years without serving food, we are reopening our kitchen with a brand-new fit-out, a new team and a completely new menu. We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Chef de Partie to join us and help build a food offering we can be proud of.

Our aim is simple: proper pub food, done right — fresh, local and full of flavour.

Around 95% of our menu will be prepared fresh in-house, including stocks, gravies, sauces and traditional puddings. We are also working with local suppliers, including producers and a dairy farm located less than 30 minutes away.

As Chef de Partie, you will work closely with the Head Chef and Sous Chef to prepare, cook and present dishes to a consistently high standard. You will take responsibility for your section, help maintain a clean and organised kitchen and support the team during busy services.

Your responsibilities will include:

Preparing and cooking fresh food to agreed recipes and standards

Running your kitchen section during service

Maintaining excellent food presentation and portion control

Following food safety, hygiene and allergen procedures

Completing daily preparation and cleaning duties

Checking stock levels and helping reduce food waste

Receiving and storing deliveries correctly

Supporting junior chefs and kitchen assistants

Helping with seasonal specials and menu development

Working as part of a positive and dependable kitchen team

We are looking for someone who:

Has experience working in a professional kitchen

Enjoys preparing fresh food

Can remain calm and organised during busy services

Takes pride in food quality, cleanliness and presentation

Is reliable, punctual and willing to learn

Can work evenings, weekends and bank holidays when required

Communicates well and works positively with others

Previous Chef de Partie experience is preferred, although we will also consider a strong Commis Chef who is ready to progress and take responsibility for their own section.

Pay: National Minimum Wage to £13.00 per hour, depending on experience

Tips: Paid separately and not included in the advertised hourly rate

Hours: Up to 30 hours per week

Contract: Part-time

Location: The Salt Barge, Marston

Pay: £11.00-£13.00 per hour
