Senior Cloud Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Engineer to design, build, and operate secure, resilient, and scalable cloud infrastructure that supports critical enterprise applications and digital services. This role will provide hands-on technical leadership across cloud engineering, automation, platform reliability, security, and operational improvement initiatives.
The Senior Cloud Engineer will work closely with software engineers, solution architects, cybersecurity specialists, infrastructure teams, data professionals, and business stakeholders to deliver modern cloud capabilities that are reliable, cost-effective, and aligned with strategic priorities. You will help define technical standards, automate infrastructure delivery, improve observability, and strengthen the operational maturity of cloud services. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in public-cloud platforms, infrastructure as code, networking, identity management, and DevOps practices. You will resolve complex technical issues, guide architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and drive continuous improvement across cloud environments. This is an opportunity to shape enterprise cloud strategy while delivering high-quality platforms that enable product teams to innovate securely, rapidly, and at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable, highly available cloud infrastructure across enterprise environments.
- Develop reusable infrastructure patterns, reference architectures, and engineering standards for cloud-hosted services.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, deployment, and lifecycle management using infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Partner with application, data, security, and architecture teams to deliver cloud solutions that meet functional and non-functional requirements.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that support reliable, repeatable, and secure delivery of infrastructure and platform changes.
- Implement cloud security controls, including identity and access management, encryption, network segmentation, logging, and vulnerability remediation.
- Monitor cloud platforms and services, improving observability through metrics, logs, tracing, dashboards, and automated alerting.
- Investigate and resolve complex incidents related to availability, performance, connectivity, capacity, security, and deployment failures.
- Lead cloud migration, modernization, and optimization initiatives for applications, infrastructure, databases, and operational services.
- Manage cloud cost optimization by analyzing consumption, rightsizing resources, implementing governance controls, and advising service owners.
- Develop and test disaster-recovery, backup, resilience, and business-continuity solutions for critical cloud workloads.
- Participate in architecture and design reviews, identifying technical risks, dependencies, constraints, and improvement opportunities.
- Mentor cloud and platform engineers while promoting automation, documentation, operational excellence, and continuous learning.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
- Seven or more years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, or enterprise technology operations.
- Strong hands-on experience with one or more major cloud platforms, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Demonstrated experience designing and operating highly available, secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud infrastructure.
- Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Azure Bicep, ARM templates, Pulumi, or Ansible.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, Azure Kubernetes Service, or Google Kubernetes Engine.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts, including virtual networks, subnets, routing, load balancing, DNS, firewalls, VPNs, and private connectivity.
- Experience implementing cloud security controls involving identity and access management, encryption, secrets management, auditing, and security monitoring.
- Familiarity with CI/CD platforms and source-control tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Argo CD, or similar technologies.
- Experience with Linux and Windows administration, scripting, automation, and configuration management using Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of cloud monitoring and observability tools such as CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Google Cloud Operations, Datadog, Splunk, Prometheus, or Grafana.
- Experience with cloud migration, disaster recovery, backup, resilience engineering, capacity planning, and incident management.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, or Google Professional Cloud Architect are preferred.
- Authorization to work in the United Kingdom is required.
