The Role
As HSE Manager, you will support the delivery of effective Health, Safety and Environmental standards across MJ Church Recycling, with operational coverage across Waste Management, Wick Quarry and transport operations.
Reporting into the Group Head of HSE, the role will work closely with operational leaders and engage with relevant Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) members to support compliance, risk management and continuous improvement.
The role will focus on providing visible, practical and consistent HSE support, helping teams get the basics right while strengthening standards, behaviours and assurance across multi-site recycling, quarrying and transport activities.
Role Purpose
- Support the implementation of the Group HSE strategy within MJ Church Recycling operations.
- Provide competent HSE advice to waste management, quarrying and transport teams.
- Engage with the Group Head of HSE, operational managers, ELT and SLT members to escalate risks, share learning and support decision making.
- Provide line management, support and direction to HSE Advisor resources within MJ Church Recycling.
- Support the roll out, monitoring and improvement of Group minimum standards and critical risk controls.
- Promote a positive HSE culture that balances compliance, accountability and operational practicality.
- Support safe and environmentally responsible operations across transfer stations, recycling activities, quarrying, haulage and fleet operations.
Operational Delivery
- Maintain a regular visible presence across waste management sites, Wick Quarry and transport operations.
- Work directly with site, quarry and transport managers to ensure HSE standards are understood, implemented and sustained.
- Support operational teams in managing key risks including workplace transport, mobile plant, LOTOTO, lifting, traffic management, waste handling, quarry hazards and environmental controls.
- Monitor HSE performance, complete inspections and audits, and drive practical improvements focused on risk reduction and operational effectiveness.
- Coordinate HSE Advisor activities to ensure effective operational coverage, timely action closure and consistent support across MJ Church Recycling.
Who You Are
- NEBOSH General Certificate, NVQ Level 5/6, NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent HSE qualification.
- Professional membership of IOSH, GradIOSH.
- Environmental qualification or experience supporting environmental compliance within operational environments.
- Experience in high-risk industries, where output and delivery our process driven.
- Experience in an HSE role within waste management, manufacturing, quarrying, transport, construction, materials handling or similar operational environments.
- Strong understanding of HSE legislation and the ability to apply it pragmatically in operational settings.
- Ability to influence managers, supervisors and frontline teams across multi-site operations.
