Title: Senior Pipeline Engineer

Reporting to: Engineering Manager

Employment Type: Permanent

Location: Aberdeen

Job purpose
Works independently and as part of project teams liaising with both internal and external clients. Responsible for conducting independent verification and certification of offshore and onshore pipeline systems throughout the project lifecycle; ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements. The Senior Pipeline Engineer acts as an independent competent person providing technical reviews, compliance assessments, and verification statements.

Key responsibilities

Perform independent verification of pipeline design, installation and integrity/engineering criticality assessments.
Review engineering deliverables including design philosophies, specifications, design basis documents, design reports and calculations, data sheets, alignment sheets, drawings, procedures and methodologies, risk assessments and integrity documents.
Verify compliance with project requirements, industry standards and regulatory obligations.
Assess technical studies related to pipeline routing, wall thickness design, stability, free spans, crossings, installation, cathodic protection, traffic, accidental events, structural integrity, etc..
Conduct reviews of pipeline integrity and remaining life assessments to support life extension and continued operation of ageing assets.
Review fabrication, welding, coating, testing, and quality control documentation.
Participate in surveillance, audits, inspections and witness activities as required.
Prepare technical review comments, compliance assessments, verification reports, validation calculations and verification statements.
Interface with clients, contractors, regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders.
Support and mentor less experienced engineers.

Qualifications

Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Offshore or related engineering discipline or equivalent work experience.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent preferred.

Experience

10+ years of pipeline engineering design and/or verification experience.
Experience in independent verification and certification projects.
Proven experience in offshore and onshore pipeline developments.
Experience covering pipeline FEED, detailed design, fabrication, installation, commissioning and operations.
Knowledge of rigid and flexible pipelines and risers.

Technical competencies
Codes and standards
Strong knowledge of: API ASME, BS/EN, DNV, Norsok codes and recommended practices, Energy Institute Guidelines and ISO standards applicable to pipeline systems
Engineering skills

Pipeline design and integrity assessment
On-bottom stability and free span assessments
Pressure containment and structural analysis
Materials compatibility experience
Installation engineering
Coating, corrosion and cathodic protection
Engineering criticality / fatigue experience
Risk-based verification and certification

Software
Experience with two or more of:

OrcaFlex
Flexcom
Abaqus
ANSYS
AutoPIPE
CAESAR II
Crackwise
Mathcad
