Gordale Garden Centre is a long-established, award-winning, family-run business set in 15 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. With a covered shop, food hall, outdoor plant area, children’s play areas, petrol station and coffee shop, we offer our customers much more than a traditional garden centre.

We are now looking for two enthusiastic and creative Garden Centre Assistants to join our Indoor & Outdoor Lifestyle team, working across garden furniture, BBQs, clothing, Christmas and interiors.
The Role
This is a varied retail role for someone who enjoys working with products, customers and displays.
You’ll help create attractive, inspiring and easy-to-shop areas across our lifestyle departments, making sure our products are presented at their very best and that our customers enjoy discovering something new every time they visit.
We’re particularly interested in people who have a natural flair for presentation – someone who notices when a display could look better, enjoys putting products together in an appealing way and takes pride in creating spaces that make customers stop, look and want to buy.
Christmas is a particularly important part of the role. You’ll be involved in setting up our Christmas department and helping to transform the area into an exciting, inspirational destination. We want someone who can help us bring Christmas to life through imaginative displays, thoughtful product placement and an excellent eye for detail.
What you’ll be doing
- Providing outstanding, friendly and knowledgeable customer service across our garden furniture, BBQ, clothing, Christmas and interiors departments.
- Creating attractive and inspiring product displays that encourage customers to browse, discover and buy.
- Using creativity and initiative to make the most of our shop floor space and present products in their best possible light.
- Moving and refreshing featured products to create interest and keep displays looking fresh and exciting.
- Creating linked product displays and combinations that inspire customers and generate additional sales.
- Helping to style and merchandise different areas, paying close attention to colour, balance, presentation and detail.
- Playing a key role in setting up and removing our Christmas department and helping to create the magical Christmas experience Gordale is known for.
- Ensuring stock is correctly priced, clearly signed and presented in a tidy, appealing and customer-friendly way.
- Developing excellent product knowledge so you can confidently advise customers and support sales.
- Receiving and checking deliveries and ensuring stock reaches the shop floor efficiently.
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, housekeeping and presentation throughout your areas.
- Spotting opportunities to improve displays, customer experience or sales and sharing your ideas with your manager.
- Supporting other areas of the garden centre when required.
- Promoting the Gordale loyalty card and helping to build strong customer relationships.
- Working safely and following all company policies and procedures.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who is more than simply a good salesperson. You’ll have a genuine interest in how products look, how customers shop and how a great display can bring a department to life.
You’ll ideally have:
- A natural flair for creating attractive and engaging displays.
- A strong eye for detail and pride in presentation.
- Creativity and imagination, with the confidence to suggest new ideas.
- An instinct for colour, composition, styling and putting products together effectively.
- The ability to create displays that feel inspiring rather than simply filling shelves.
- A passion for retail and creating an excellent customer experience.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- The confidence to approach customers, understand their needs and offer helpful advice.
- Good organisation skills and the ability to work at pace when required.
- A positive, practical and flexible approach to working as part of a busy team.
- The ability to handle and move stock safely, including larger and heavier items.
- Previous retail, interiors, homewares, fashion, hospitality or display experience would be an advantage, but it is your creativity, attitude and eye for presentation that we are particularly interested in.

Working Hours
This is a permanent, full-time position working up to five days per week, including one weekend day and scheduled late shifts during peak seasonal times. Additional hours may be available during our busiest trading periods.
