Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
Location: West Thurrock, RM20 3FN
Employment type: Full-time, Permanent
About the role
We’re looking for an experienced Internal Sales Executive to join our growing Insulation Wholesale business.
This is not a traditional sales role with an administrator or sales support team behind you. You’ll own the customer journey from first enquiry through to delivered order, while also generating new business and reactivating dormant accounts.
In simple terms, we need someone who can sell it, price it, process it, chase it, and sort it when something goes wrong.
You’ll work closely with the Head of Store and, over time, become capable of running the desk independently during periods of absence.
This is an ideal opportunity for a commercially driven sales professional who enjoys taking ownership, picking up the phone, and getting things done.
What you’ll be doing:
Sales and business development
- Handle inbound enquiries by phone, email, and live chat from first contact through to order.
- Proactively contact dormant and lapsed customers and work to win their business back.
- Cross-sell insulation products to existing Sheet Materials and Brick Wholesale customers.
- Cold call prospective customers and generate new business.
- Follow-up on open quotes promptly and persistently.
- Handle pricing objections confidently and protect margin.
- Build and manage your own sales pipeline.
Quoting and commercial work
- Understand what customers need from measurements, drawings, and project information.
- Calculate quantities, including board and pack requirements, and appropriate wastage.
- Identify associated products required for a job, such as edge strip, vapour control layers, DPM, foil tape, and fixings.
- Prepare accurate quotations using our pricing system.
- Check and maintain appropriate margins across product groups.
- Manage special pricing within agreed commercial limits.
Order processing and administration
- Create new customer accounts, products, and price records.
- Raise and track orders from start to finish.
- Coordinate deliveries and transport requirements.
- Deal directly with suppliers regarding stock availability, orders, and lead times.
- Resolve delivery and order problems rather than passing them on.
- Keep customer, quote, and order information accurate and up to date.
- Support website product and content setup where required.
There is no sales administrator behind this role. You will be expected to do your own quoting, system entry, order processing, and supplier chasing.
What we're looking for:
You’ll need to be a confident, commercially minded salesperson who is comfortable taking responsibility for the whole job.
Essential
- Demonstrable outbound sales experience - including cold or warm calling and following opportunities through to an outcome.
- A confident telephone manner and willingness to pick up the phone rather than relying on email.
- Strong numerical ability, including percentages, margins and quantity calculations.
- Experience handling pricing objections and commercial conversations.
- A proven ability to follow up persistently rather than letting opportunities go cold.
- Strong personal accountability and self-motivation.
- The ability to work independently without constant supervision.
- A practical, problem-solving approach to administration and systems.
- Willingness to take ownership of tasks outside a narrow job description.
- The ability to deal with unhappy customers promptly and professionally.
You don't need to be an insulation expert when you start - training will be provided on our products, applications, pricing and quoting, technical basics, drawings and quantity take-offs, suppliers and delivery processes, and our systems and procedures.
We use HubSpot, Aircall, WooCommerce, Slack, Monday.com and Priceshape. You don't need previous experience with all of these, but you do need to be comfortable with software and willing to learn.
If you're looking for a role where you manage a comfortable inbox and someone else handles the administration, this probably isn't the role for you.
If, however, you like owning the outcome and want a commercially important role where your work has a direct impact on the growth of the business, we'd like to hear from you.
What we offer
- £38,000-£42,000 salary, depending on experience.
- Monday to Friday working week.
- Modern office facilities, including a fully equipped kitchen and coffee machine.
- Employee discounts through Bright HR Exchange
- 28 days of holiday + your birthday off
- On-site parking
- Training on insulation products, systems, quoting and technical processes.
- The opportunity to build and develop dormant and new business rather than simply managing an existing order book.
- Friendly, supportive team.
