Key Responsibilities
As a Systems Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing and supporting secure, resilient technology solutions that meet customer and business requirements. Working closely with clients, project managers, architects, service teams and technical specialists, you will help deliver infrastructure and cloud solutions that enable organisations to operate effectively, securely and efficiently.
- You will bring strong technical expertise, excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work confidently in complex environments where collaboration, innovation and service excellence are essential.
- Design, deploy and maintain infrastructure solutions across on-premises, cloud and hybrid environments.
- Configure, support and optimise servers, networks, storage, virtualisation platforms and associated technologies.
- Work closely with customers and stakeholders to understand technical requirements and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure, systems and network issues.
- Monitor system performance, availability and capacity, implementing improvements where required.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, support procedures and system designs.
- Support infrastructure upgrades, migrations and technology refresh programmes.
- Assist with solution design, implementation, testing and transition into service.
- Ensure systems are secure, compliant and aligned with industry best practices and customer requirements.
- Collaborate with architects, project managers, consultants and service teams throughout the project and service lifecycle.
- Identify and manage technical risks, dependencies, assumptions and constraints that could impact delivery.
- Support incident, problem and change management activities in line with established processes.
- Provide clear technical updates, recommendations and guidance to customers and stakeholders at all levels.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, helping to enhance services, processes and technical capabilities across the organisation.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends and security best practices to ensure the delivery of modern, effective solutions.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Systems engineering across the full lifecycle, from requirements capture through to design, integration, testing, acceptance and in-service support.
- Design and implementation of secure infrastructure, networks and information systems.
- Experience working within complex, multi-domain environments, including on-premises, cloud and hybrid architectures.
- Systems integration, technical assurance and solution validation.
- Requirements management, verification and traceability.
- Technical risk, issue and dependency management.
- Development of technical documentation, design artefacts and engineering reports.
- Experience of system hardening, cyber security controls and secure-by-design principles.
- Configuration, change and release management.
- Stakeholder engagement across technical, operational and programme teams.
- Troubleshooting, root cause analysis and problem resolution.
- Knowledge of interoperability, resilience, availability and disaster recovery principles.
- Methodologies: Agile, Waterfall, PRINCE2, ITIL, Kanban / Scrum, AWS / Azure
Experience gained within consultancy, government, defence, security or another highly regulated environment is essential.
