A Recruitment and Retention Allowance (RRA) is available for up to £5000 for candidates that meet the right skills and experience. This will be reviewed annually and is not consolidated for pension. The total salary package is negotiable for exceptional candidates.

GPA is also committed to recognising and rewarding where our staff hold the Gold Standard accreditation relevant to their Specialism and offer a £5000 non-pensionable allowance to staff who have achieved this.

Job description

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer to join the PropTech team, to help deliver more great services.
You will work in a team of skilled Engineers, providing DevOps capability to the Government Property Agencies CTO PropTech Team. You will be working with multi-disciplinary teams who deliver user-centred digital services for all of our users. Working in close collaboration with other engineers and software developers, you will ensure services are deployed continuously, monitored appropriately and are resilient and scalable.
As a DevOps Engineer, you will be using the latest technologies and trends, whilst delivering working software early and often.
There will be opportunities to contribute to the development of the pan-government community and wider technology leadership across government.
Help design and implement resilient, scaleable, highly available services
Automate tasks, deployments, and tests by creating infrastructure as code
Be a valued member of a team of engineers that provide technical support across a variety of digital products and services
Work with our development community to ensure we build sustainable digital products
Help the team create and sustain modern deployment standards, practices and techniques for our development and DevOps community
Advocate user-centric, agile approaches which focus on rapid, effective delivery of high quality digital services
Help build and maintain a diverse, inclusive culture across the DevOps community, growing awareness, inclusivity, and balance

Person specification

We are looking for a motivated and driven individual with:

Strong communication skills and is comfortable briefing at a senior level
Customer focused and organised with an ability to rapidly analyse complex problems and find solutions
Resilient, adaptable and comfortable working in a fast paced and evolving environment
Driven and focused to deliver within the public sector
Collaborative and inclusive ways of working and can build trust across diverse teams and stakeholders
Is able to communicate to external bodies and industry specialists

Essential criteria:

Experience with setting up services in public cloud using infrastructure as code
Experience with troubleshooting web applications including low level issues in systems, networks, and databases
Understanding of networking and web application security including TCP, HTTP, DNS and SSL
Experience of modern development workflows such as Git and CI/CD ideally using GitHub
Enthusiasm for sharing knowledge, leading by example, mentoring others, and working in a diverse and inclusive multi-disciplinary agile team
Experience with containerised applications and running them in an orchestrator, ideally Kubernetes

Desirable criteria:

Knowledge of software development or scripting, ideally with Bash, PowerShell, Terraform or similar
Knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems

Interview
