Contracts Manager
About the role
We are seeking a Contract Manager to support and grow our Exeter branch. You will liaise with clients, visit sites to scope works and prepare quotations, schedule resources, and oversee delivery to the highest standards. A key part of the role is producing site-specific risk assessments and method statements, ensuring compliance with HSE requirements in a highly regulated asbestos contracting environment. You will help to develop the team, maintain strong relationships with customers and suppliers, and uphold excellent health and safety practice throughout project delivery.
This role is based in our Exeter office.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the business with liaison with clients, site visit for assessment and preparation of quotations. Ensuring all works are carried out to the best of your ability.
- Assisting to identify, win and develop new client accounts and maintain highest standard of service for existing client base.
- Preparation of site-specific risk assessments and detailed method statements ensuring compliance with all relevant HSE regulations. Notification of project to enforcing authority when required. Convey the information contained within the site-specific risk assessment and method statement to site personnel to ensure full understanding.
- Programme works and resources to ensure client and company needs are met.
- Oversee work carried out by removal teams to ensure highest standard of workmanship is being achieved. Assist colleagues to fulfil their duties.
- Responsible for creating clear and accurate job files ensuring all relevant paperwork is contained before submitting for archiving.
- Take all reasonable steps to ensure health and safety and welfare at work. You are required to gain an understanding of the Company’s health and safety procedures, observe them and enforce them, and ensure that safety equipment and clothing are fit for the purpose and always used. Carry out regular health and safety checks, including site audits.
- Ensure operatives are fully trained and competent for the undertaking of the work in hand.
- Maintain a strong working relationship with customers and suppliers at all times.
- To maintain a smart standard of dress as required by any person representing the company.
- Ensure sub-contract companies and labour are competent in the tasks that are required of them. Ensure all Health & Safety paperwork and standards of the highest level are met to ensure the company image is not compromised.
- Minimum times of work are 7.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Be prepared to work in addition to your normal daily hours of work if instructed to do so by your Manager on reasonable notice, or if necessary for the proper performance of your duties, or to fulfil the needs of clients.
About you:
- Evidence some management experience, excellent interpersonal skills as well as leadership and people management skills. The role is client facing and involves working with at all levels within organisations (Senior Directors, Site Operatives, Major and Sub Contractors, Local Authorities etc).
- Evidence some experience of being able to successfully manage both small and large scale projects through to completion.
- Be commercially astute, a role requirement will be to negotiate "profitable" contracts in detail and build long term client relationships.
- Be able to understand all financial aspects of the Contract Management process and be able to produce detailed working programmes and plans of work.
- Monitor contract progress; assist the branch as necessary to ensure both client requirements and company profit targets are met.
Other qualities and requirements:
Evidence sufficient knowledge, strong experience and training to demonstrate competence in:
- The construction industry
- H&S issues and legislative requirements for the removal of asbestos
- Control measures required for the removal of asbestos
- Preparation to carry out asbestos removal
- Decontamination requirements
- Set up enclosures for the safe removal of asbestos
- Procedures for the safe removal of asbestos
- Cleaning and decontamination procedures
- Procedures for the packaging and disposal of asbestos waste.

Base: Exeter
Contract Type: Full time, permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30 – 16:30
