What does the average day look like?
In this role, you'll operate across a variety of strategic and technical workstreams, supporting the development and implementation of geotechnical asset management policy, standards, and initiatives. Your day may involve analysing data and performance trends, providing expert technical advice, and collaborating with stakeholders across the organisation to improve how geotechnical risks are managed.
You'll contribute to national programmes, help embed innovative and data-led approaches, and support continuous improvement in how assets are maintained and assessed. Working in a dynamic environment, you'll balance technical delivery with strategic input, often prioritising across multiple competing activities
A little bit about the team...
You'll be part of a small, highly specialised national team within the Network Technical Head (Geotechnics) function. The team brings together expertise across geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, infrastructure asset management, and mining risk, providing technical leadership and shaping standards across the organisation. Working closely with Principal and Senior Engineers, the team collaborates across disciplines to deliver strategic outcomes and drive continuous improvement at a national level.

Who are we looking for?
We're looking for someone with a strong background in geotechnical, civil engineering, or a related discipline, supported by a relevant degree (or equivalent experience) and membership of a professional body. You'll bring broad technical experience alongside an understanding of asset management, risk-based decision-making, and the application of engineering standards. Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills are essential, with the ability to influence, collaborate, and operate in a strategic environment. Experience in embedding data-driven approaches, working across complex infrastructure environments, or contributing to policy and standards development will make you stand out, as will chartered status or project management experience.
Essential Criteria
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering or geoscience discipline or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience (Level 6)
- Membership of a relevant technical body
- Broad technical engineering experience
- Project or financial planning and management experience
