Our Casualty team provides a full, expert service in defending public liability (PL) and employers' liability (EL) claims across the private sector and the public sector. Weightmans' team is second-to-none in providing defendant litigation services in these and other specialist Casualty areas. We operate on a national basis with dedicated commercial insurance and public sector teams and as part of our wider specialism we have a dedicated Casualty Fraud team. We receive direct instructions from both insureds and insurers.
We are currently recruiting for a Solicitor with 1- 3 years PQE to work both independently on their own caseload and closely alongside senior case handlers.
We are looking for someone with an eye for detail who is comfortable managing the high quantity of documents associated with each case. This is an excellent opportunity to build strong client relationships and really make your mark. We are open to all candidates especially those who have a can do attitude and are genuinely keen to be part of our team. The role can be varied and we would like someone who can adapt to change and proactively solve problems.
Your key duties and responsibilities will include:
- Running a case load of litigated claims, dealing with both liability and quantum
- Managing disclosure documents
- Assisting senior fee earners with various tasks including general case management, legal research, drafting of witness statements, reports to clients and preparation for court hearings
- Attending client meetings and court hearings
- Assisting with the instruction of Counsel and experts
- Responding promptly and accurately to correspondence and telephone enquiries from clients and other parties, with and without supervision
- Achieving set financial and chargeable targets
- Supporting the team’s business development activities
- This list is not intended to be exhaustive and you will be expected to perform other duties and have other responsibilities that fall within the wider remit of the role.
You will have previous experience as a Solicitor and a genuine and demonstrable interest in the above area of work. As the role is varied, we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to the work you do and be able to adapt to different tasks. We also require you to have:
- Current experience of handling EL/PL casualty claims is essential
- A proactive and forward-thinking mindset
- A willingness to ask questions and engage with the whole team
- Experience of handling own casualty caseload

- Knowledge of CPR procedure with proven technical ability.
