About Autism Plus
Autism Plus are a leading Yorkshire Charity supporting adults and young people with autism, learning disabilities, mental health conditions and complex needs.

In 1986 the Charity was created by a group of parents looking for the very best support for their children who were about to leave a specialist school. Once they reached the age of 17, they found there was little or no support. The belief set by our founding parents, to empower more people to live independent, fulfilling lives remains our focus today.

We employ over 350 people across the north of England in care support services, employment support and social enterprise businesses.

You will support and empower people to identify their goals, pursue their interests and hobbies, support their health and wellbeing, and be a part of their local community. You will need to provide innovative and Person Centred solutions for people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Mental Health conditions and other disabilities irrespective of where and how they live, to improve their quality of life and to extend and exercise their rights to access more control over their lives.

Job Description (includes, but is not limited too)

Help the individual receive information. Part of the intervenor role is to ensure that information the person might miss (see, hear, for example) is explained to them so they know what is happening around them.
To support the individual in their own home, in accordance with all Care Plans and protocols and continually assess their skills and needs.
To offer positive behaviour support by following the PBS plan and using appropriate agreed strategies of support
Ensure sensitive and effective communication and acknowledge and respond to the individual’s unique needs.
Enable the individual to take full advantage of learning and social experiences and to gain fuller access to the environment, exploring different leisure pursuits.
Provide practical support for the individual such as helping with household tasks including cooking, cleaning, laundry, personal care and paperwork
Provide emotional and empathetic support to the individual, by talking to them and listening to their problems and concerns. You will need to problem solve.
Ensure access to sensory needs and support activities that provide movement, deep pressure, working against resistance (proprioceptive) and tactile sensations as required at that time
Understanding their communication needs and acting as an intervenor when they communicate with family, visiting professionals and friends.
To offer unconditional positive regard to the individual, to respect right to privacy and to ensure that their dignity is always maintained
Becoming both a role model and companion to the individual and uncovering shared interests, such as hobbies and outings
Assist in planning and pursuing agreed strategies to support and alleviate behaviour that presents challenge
Supporting and monitoring their healthcare needs, always referring to the Health Action Plan and pain protocols, including administering medication
Encourage the potential for learning, increase confidence and reduce the prospect of social exclusion.
Enable them to interact with peers and members of the community.
Helping individuals with budgeting and paying bills
Accompanying individuals to appointments and meetings with other agencies and healthcare professionals
Working with families to help them to support individuals in the most effective way possible
Liaising with other support workers, social workers and relevant members of the health care profession
To assist in ensuring the environment is safe, capable and responsive to individual needs
To keep appropriate records on all matters and behaviour
To protect confidentiality of personal information and ensure the information is only disclosed to those who have a right and need to know
