Role Overview
The Senior HSE Advisor provides direction and support for all Health, Safety, and Environmental activities. This role ensures full compliance with regulatory requirements, drives continuous improvement in safety performance, and fosters a proactive safety culture throughout the organisation. The Senior HSE Advisor works closely with all departments and at all levels to minimise risk, enhance employee wellbeing, and support sustainable manufacturing practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the company's Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) management systems across the site.
- Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety and Environmental legislation, company standards, and customer requirements.
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits, behavioural safety observations, and track corrective actions through to completion.
- Lead and support incident, accident, near miss, and environmental event investigations.
- Monitor HSE performance data, produce reports, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support environmental monitoring programmes, including waste management, recycling, energy consumption, water usage, and emissions reporting.
- Build and promote a proactive safety culture through leadership visibility, coaching, engagement, and behavioural safety initiatives.
- Lead external audits and regulatory visits while supporting customer, certification, and compliance audits.
- Support the delivery of HSE training programmes and provide practical coaching to reinforce safe working practices.
- Support the development and implementation of HSE strategies and initiatives aligned to business objectives and sustainability goals.
Skills and Experience
- NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety.
- NEBOSH Environmental Management qualification.
- Previous experience working in Health, Safety & Environmental Management.
- Experience with sustainability programmes, carbon reporting, and circular economy initiatives.
- Knowledge of polymer chemistry, additives, and chemical hazard management.
- Experience with process safety, automation safety, and machine safeguarding.
- HSE leadership experience within plastics, chemicals, or high-risk manufacturing environments.
- Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft platform packages.
- Strong knowledge of UK HSE legislation and plastics-sector regulatory frameworks.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing HSE strategy across multi-site operations.
- Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
- Strong leadership, influencing, and communication skills.
- Valid UK Driving Licence.
