The Role
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Bookkeeper to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with a varied client portfolio, takes pride in delivering accurate financial information, and is confident working independently while supporting junior team members.
You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients and producing high-quality management information to support their businesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Processing all bookkeeping transactions accurately and efficiently
- Raising and processing customer invoices
- Processing supplier invoices and managing supplier accounts
- Preparing and posting payroll journal entries
- Preparing prepayments and accruals
- Preparing and submitting CIS returns
- Processing supplier payment runs
- Preparing monthly management accounts
- Reconciling bank, VAT and control accounts
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Responding to day-to-day client queries and providing bookkeeping support
- Identifying discrepancies and resolving accounting issues
- Reviewing financial reports and highlighting anomalies
- Training, mentoring and supporting junior team members
- Building strong relationships with clients and providing excellent customer service
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Proven bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice or a small to medium-sized organisation
- Strong working knowledge of Xero and other cloud accounting software
- Excellent understanding of VAT and CIS legislation
- Experience preparing management accounts
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- The ability to analyse financial reports and identify issues proactively
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
- Confidence working independently and managing your own workload
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence dealing directly with clients and providing a professional service
- The ability to use initiative and solve problems effectively
- Experience supporting, training or mentoring junior colleagues would be advantageous
