We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, passionate, innovative and progressive Consultant who share our vision, to join our Acute Medical Consultant team in the Midland Metropolitan Univerity Hospital.
The appointee will cover all areas of Acute Internal Medicine which include the Acute Medical Unit, Short Stay Unit, Medical SDEC, Virtual Clinics and our Acute Hospital At Home service- EPICENTRE. We are looking for individuals who will lead, teach, innovate, and continue to develop our acute medicine services. There is also opportunity to be invovled in research.
Applicants need to demonstrate a wide breadth of knowledge, experience and skills in acute internal medicine. This would include POCUS , leadership and QIP delivery. We also offer a specialty session outside acute medicine and we are willing to consider at joint specialty job plans including frailty, intensive care medicine and toxicology. We are also very keen to accommodate flexible working.
The Acute Medicine department is a popular site for Acute Medical trainees and is a national centre for POCUS training and accreditation. We have a dedicated AMU Clinical Skills Lab where trainees receive training in POCUS, leadership, and are involved heavily in teaching and education. Feedback from the our trainees is this team provides one of the best training within the Trust. This has been credited to the teamwork “family” ethos that has been created and sustained. The department has been recognised with local, national and international awards/recognition of work, services and innovation including our Epicentre work by HSJ and the Parliamentary Awards.

The main duties are as follows:
1. To collaborate and work to maintain Acute Medicine services in line with strategic requirements.
2. To provide, with the other Consultants in the specialty, routine and emergency Acute Medical services to the Trust, operating a system of mutual out-of-hours cover, and cover for leave.
3. To provide a consultation and advisory service to medical colleagues in other specialties in the Trust
4. To develop a special interest to complement those of the existing Consultants in Acute Medicine and in accordance with the priorities of the Trust.
5. To develop appropriate services required to fulfil clinical needs, within available resources.
6. To take responsibility for the educational supervision, education, training and appraisal of resident doctors (of all grades including registrars), medical students and other AHPs.
7. To participate in clinical meetings and postgraduate activities in the Trust.
