Race Harness Product Owner
Location: Coventry
Reporting to: Engineering Project Manager
We are seeking a dedicated and technically capable Race Harness Product Owner to take full ownership of our harness product line. This role combines mechanical understanding, product lifecycle management, and customer‑facing responsibility within a safety‑critical environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in industries such as automotive restraints, seatbelts, airbags, motorsport safety systems, or other regulated mechanical products, with a strong appreciation for compliance, testing, and traceability.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the complete lifecycle of race harness products from concept through to production, in‑service support, and continuous improvement.
- Apply mechanical knowledge to evaluate designs, materials, load paths, and safety‑critical features.
- Provide technical input to sales teams, support quotations, and ensure customer requirements are accurately captured and translated into product
- Ensure harness designs meet stringent safety, performance, and homologation requirements.
- Maintain accurate Bills of Materials, manage part changes, and ensure configuration control across multiple harness variants.
- Act as the primary customer contact for harness enquiries, new opportunities, and technical discussions, building strong long‑term relationships.
- Work closely with production teams to resolve build issues, optimise manufacturability, and support day‑to‑day operations.
- Lead the introduction of new harness designs, improvements, and product ideas based on customer needs and regulatory changes.
- Support homologation activities, testing, documentation, and compliance submissions.
- Apply understanding of webbing, stitching, buckles, adjusters, and sewn assemblies; sewing or textile experience is highly desirable.
- Coordinate with suppliers of materials, components, and hardware to ensure quality, availability, and compliance.
- Drive product enhancements, cost reductions, and performance improvements across the harness range.
- Oversee multiple harness configurations, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and alignment with customer specifications.
What You Will Need
- Mechanical or engineering qualification HNC, HND, BEng, or equivalent experience in mechanical, automotive, or product engineering.
- Experience supporting sales teams, managing customer accounts, or contributing to commercial decisions.
- Background in safety‑critical products such as seatbelts, airbags, restraints, or similar regulated mechanical assemblies.
- Comfortable speaking with customers, understanding their needs, and translating them into actionable product requirements.
- Experience owning or supporting a product line, ideally with multiple variants and configurations.
- Ability to support customer discussions, understand commercial considerations, and manage BOM‑related cost structures.
- Familiarity with testing, certification, and regulatory requirements for safety‑critical components.
- Knowledge of webbing, stitching, or sewn assemblies is highly desirable.
- Confident working with customers, suppliers, production teams, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple parts, variants, and tasks while maintaining accuracy and traceability.
- Capable of diagnosing issues across design, materials, and production processes.
