We have an exciting opportunity for a Permanent Full Time Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager to join our Health, Safety and Wellbeing Service. You will be joining a professional and highly respected team that supports services across the Council to create safe, healthy and positive working environments for employees, customers and communities. The team provides strategic and operational health, safety and wellbeing support across a diverse range of services including offices, depots, schools, leisure facilities, construction projects, parks and public spaces.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced health and safety professional looking to make a real difference within a large and complex organisation.
As a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager, you will provide competent professional advice and guidance to managers and services across the Council, helping them to manage risk effectively, ensure legal compliance and promote a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture.
You will lead on audits, inspections, accident investigations and assurance activity, working closely with managers to identify practical solutions and drive continuous improvement. The role also includes developing policies, delivering training, managing health and safety systems, supporting governance arrangements and liaising with regulators and enforcement agencies where required.
The Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager will also provide day-to-day supervision and professional support to designated staff, helping to maintain high standards of service delivery and professional practice.

About you:
We are looking for a knowledgeable and pragmatic health and safety professional who can build strong working relationships and provide credible advice across a wide range of service areas.
You will hold a NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level 6 Health and Safety qualification) together with Graduate IOSH membership (or equivalent) and be working towards, or already hold, Chartered status.
You will also bring:
- Experience working in a multi-site health and safety environment.
- Experience supervising or supporting staff.
- Strong knowledge of current health and safety legislation and best practice.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- The ability to investigate incidents and identify root causes.
- Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A practical and proportionate approach to risk management.
Experience within a public sector, local authority or education setting would be advantageous.
What we can offer you:
Salary: The salary band for this role is £47,181 - £51,357 per annum. The starting salary is £47,181 with annual progression through the salary bands.
