The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) are seeking a Deputy Management Accountant who will work within the Strategic Finance team, the team are responsible for managing the medium-term financial plans of the Agency. The role will be to ensure smooth running of the month end and year end activities, along with ad hoc financial support. Linking with the Finance Business Partners, to support them with their responsibilities.

Job description

Your responsibilities will include, but arent limited to:

Responsible for month end and year end processes and reporting, ensuring a smooth process in line with agreed timetables.
Undertake all month end activities, including but not limited to identifying, preparing and posting journals, reviewing and identifying potential missing accruals and prepayments, owning pay models, locking forecasts and assisting stakeholders with commentary for variances.
Ensure the integrity of transactions on financial systems, ensuring good controls and checks are in place to maintain accuracy.
As required analyse financial and non-financial data, to determine trends, correlations and other statistical information which impact business decisions. Ensure in line with the MCAs Business Plan.
Support Finance Business Partners in providing explanations for significant changes in budget, forecast and actuals; provide updates on issues, risks and opportunities to senior managers.
Produce high quality monthly finance reports and support Finance Business Partners in preparing insightful management information for senior managers.
To gain an in-depth working knowledge of the MCA and build strong relationships with stakeholders across the Agency, including non-finance staff and budget holders.

Required Experience:

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

Minimum part qualified CCAB/CIMA, or significant relevant experience in management accounting roles.
Advanced Excel skills and financial analysis.
Confident in working on own initiative, as well as working alongside various stakeholders including but not limited to non-finance staff, budget holders, Directors and senior managers.

Stage 1: Sift of CV and Personal Statement

Stage 2: Presentation and Interview

You must be successful at each stage to progress to the next stage.

Stage 1: Sift

At sift, you will be assessed against the following Success Profile elements:

Experience you will be asked to provide a CV (unlimited wordcount) and Personal Statement (750 word count). Please provide evidence of your Experience of the following:
- Your experience in managing accounting roles, advanced excel skills and financial analysis.
- Confidence in working with your own initiative and with various stakeholders including non-finance staff, budget holders, Directors and senior managers.

The sift will take place week commencing 22nd June 2026.

Stage 2: Interview

At interview stage, you will be assessed against the following Success Profile elements:

Behaviours Changing and Improving, Delivering at Pace, Seeing the Big Picture, Managing a Quality Service and Communicating and Influencing

You will also be required to create and deliver a presentation to assess the Behaviour Managing a Quality Service. Guidance will be provided if you are invited to interview.

The interviews will take place week commencing 6th July 2026.

This interview will be conducted online via Microsoft Teams. Further details will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.
