Role Purpose:
To work under the direction of the SENDCO and teaching staff to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including SEMH, Autism, communication and interaction needs, cognition and learning difficulties, and physical or medical needs.
- Provide tailored support for individual students and small groups with identified SEND.
- Assist students to access learning and participate fully in Academy life.
- Promote students’ emotional wellbeing, confidence, resilience and independence.
- Support implementation of EHCPs and intervention programmes.
- Act as a key worker for identified students.
- Support the personal care, welfare and physical needs of identified students, in accordance with individual care plans, risk assessments and Academy procedures.
- Assist identified students with mobility, positioning and access to learning activities, using agreed moving and handling procedures and specialist equipment where appropriate.
- Undertake mandatory training relating to safeguarding, first aid, personal care, manual handling and moving and handling, and apply this training when supporting students.
- Deliver learning activities and interventions planned by teaching staff.
- Adapt and prepare learning resources.
- Assist teachers in monitoring and assessing student progress.
- Provide feedback to teachers and the SEND team.
- Work collaboratively with the SENCO and wider SEND team.
- Assist in gathering evidence and assessment information.
- Support students with communication, sensory, social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people.
- Follow Academy safeguarding, health and safety and behaviour policies.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Undertake First Aid duties and training as required.
- Undertake specialist SEND-related training as required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
- English and Mathematics at Level 2 or above.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Willingness to undertake First Aid training.
- Willingness to undertake SEND-specific training.
- Willingness and ability to undertake mandatory training relating to personal care, manual handling and moving and handling, and to apply this training when supporting identified students.
- Ability to support students with personal care, welfare and physical needs in a dignified, respectful and professional manner.
- NVQ Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent.
- Relevant qualification in Education, Childcare, SEND or Inclusion.
- Team Teach, MAPA or similar training.
- Manual handling/moving and handling training.
- Autism, ADHD, SEMH or Speech and Language training.
