The Bell Inn, situated in the heart of Kingsteignton is a quintessential village pub that warmly welcomes locals and visitors alike. Known for its low-beamed ceilings and inviting log burner, it offers a cosy atmosphere perfect for relaxation. Providing a selection of quality local cask ales and fresh, homemade dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients. The pub boasts a spacious beer garden complete with a children's play area, making it an ideal spot for families during the summer months. Ample parking facilities further enhance its accessibility.

Role Overview:
As Head Chef, you’ll take full control of the kitchen, leading a small but efficient team and maintaining consistently high food standards. Working closely with the General Manager, you’ll be responsible for food quality, menu planning, kitchen organisation, and team development. The Bell Inn is a popular spot so your ability to deliver quality dishes at volume, with care and consistency, is key.

Key Responsibilities:

Kitchen Leadership & Team Development

Lead, train, and motivate the kitchen team to deliver fresh, consistent, quality dishes.
Promote a positive and professional kitchen culture that supports staff development and retention.
Oversee recruitment, training, and performance of all kitchen staff.

Day-to-Day Operations

Manage all aspects of kitchen service, food prep, and cleanliness.
Maintain excellent hygiene and food safety standards in line with regulations.
Oversee ordering, stock control, and supplier relationships.

Menu & Specials Creation

Develop seasonal menus and daily specials that reflect the venue’s character and local produce.
Ensure dishes meet agreed GP targets and maintain portion control.
Support food-led promotions and work with the wider team on event catering.

Working as Part of the Wider Venue Team

Collaborate with the front-of-house team to ensure smooth service.
Contribute ideas for events, themed nights, and marketing campaigns.
Represent the kitchen during team meetings and contribute to the pub’s success.

What We’re Looking For

Previous experience as a Head Chef or experienced Sous Chef in a busy, food-led pub or restaurant.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to develop a small team.
A passion for honest, fresh food and a keen eye for presentation.
Confident in maintaining high standards under pressure.
Good understanding of kitchen financials including stock control, GP, and waste management.
Full understanding of food safety and kitchen health & safety procedures (Level 3 preferred).
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and busy periods.
