We are now looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Butchery Assistant to join our busy production team.
The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career within the food production and butchery industry. Whether you have previous experience or are looking to learn a completely new trade, we will provide full training and support from our experienced butchers.
Working as part of a close-knit team, you will assist in preparing customer orders to the high standards Walter Rose is known for. The role is varied and hands-on, requiring someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in producing quality work.
You will be expected to work safely, efficiently and accurately while maintaining exceptional hygiene and food safety standards.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with the preparation and packing of fresh meat products.
- Safely handling raw meat in accordance with food hygiene regulations.
- Operating equipment including vacuum packing machines and other food production equipment (full training provided).
- Labelling products accurately and ensuring all traceability information is completed correctly.
- Rotating stock using FIFO (First In, First Out) principles.
- Hanging, storing and organising stock within chilled storage areas.
- Preparing customer orders for dispatch.
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the department.
- Carrying out end-of-shift cleaning and sanitising equipment and work areas.
- Completing quality and hygiene checks as required.
- Working within company Health & Safety, Food Safety and HACCP procedures.
- Reporting equipment faults, stock issues or food safety concerns to your supervisor.
- Supporting colleagues across the production department when required.
- Helping ensure customer orders are completed accurately and on time.

Experience
Previous experience within food production, butchery, manufacturing or warehouse environments would be advantageous but is not essential, as full training will be provided.
This role would also suit someone looking to begin a career in butchery or food manufacturing.
Working Environment
As part of this role, you will be working in a chilled food production environment where temperatures are maintained to ensure product quality and food safety.
Appropriate protective clothing and PPE will be provided.
Hours
- 40 hours per week
- 5 days per week
- Saturday working required
- One rota'd day off during the week.
- Shift: 10pm – 6am
